Rosenbaum's cheap analysis

OK, take a strong academic piece by Mearshimer and Walt, and take the cheap, easy, sleazy analysis:

1. It's read and accepted by David Duke (like that matters!)

2. Graciously pronounce that it's not quite "anti-Semitic"

You, Mr. Rosenbaum, are not academically fit to challenge this report with your ancedotal observations and cheap shots. Your entire role is to slime a report that is truthful, insightful, and if properly interpreted and acted upon, would cause the US to cease being a vassal state of Israel.

He has more qualifications to discuss it than you do, you hypocritical jerk.

Actually Rosenbaum's column provides perfect justification for doubting the loyalty of people like Feith, Wolfowitz, Perle, Krauthammer, Hadley, Rosenbaum and all of these other "American Israelis" both in govt. and in the media to the United States when it comes to US foreign policy in the Middle East. To whom are they most loyal: Israel or the USA? Obviously there is a tremendous conflict of interest here among all of these American Israelis and I wonder why no one questions that. How many of these people have family and business interests in Israel? How many of them have Israeli citizenship? No one seems to know and no one seems to care. So, Mr. Rosenbaum and others of your ilk, if push comes to shove, would you stand with the US or with Israel? Where do your ultimate loyalties lie?

I agree it was a poor article - one of the worst I've read on Slate, actually - but how do you conclude that it provides justification for questioning the patriotism of Jews? Seems a bit too narrow an argument given that everyone in the U.S., save Native Americans, is an immigrant, who valves her ethnic heritage to some degree. Do you similarly impugn the loyalties of Cobain-Americans in Miami, or Mexican-Americans in California? I'd be more willing to take this argument seriously if I could see a way it didn't snowball into Know Nothingism.
