Isn't "spineless" redundant?

I mean...have you ever seen a douchebag?

Ugh! True.
by Thy Goddess

Not as many as you have, apparently.

Smooch.

He has a spine and he can use it when his wife allows it.

for him.

I am just terribly disturbed and outraged...not only with the police brutality but with Kerry's and the audience's acquiescence.

He could've stopped it. He could've invoked and protected the student's First Amendment rights.

He should be ashamed of himself.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Sen. John Kerry issued the following statement today, in response to the arrest of a student at the University of Florida.

“In 37 years of public appearances, through wars, protests and highly emotional events, I have never had a dialogue end this way. I believe I could have handled the situation without interruption, but I do not know what warnings or other exchanges transpired between the young man and the police prior to his barging to the front of the line and their intervention. I asked the police to allow me to answer the question and was in the process of responding when he was taken into custody. I was not aware that a taser was used until after I left the building. I hope that neither the student nor any of the police were injured. I regret enormously that a good healthy discussion was interrupted."

So what?

Does his statement make his actions acceptable?

He could've stopped it. He did not do anything.

Forget trying to answer his questions. He could've told them to stop and leave him alone, he could've invoked his First Amendment rights, he could've challenged the police actions.

He just stood there.

"I hope that neither the student nor any of the police were injured"???

Again, he should be ashamed of himself.

Three Years Too Late
by Urquhart

Actually, decades too late, but still, how long exactly did it take you to figure out that John Kerry is a spineless douchebag? A man of no character, no convictions, no loyalty, and endless vanity?

PS, it might be a good idea to explain the link before posting it. Just a little showbiz tip, there, from one deity to another (rather undefined).

Well

Duh.

Perfect example though of a situation where everybody does exactly the wrong thing at exactly the right time. Meyer (the student) was clearly out of line. Clearly. His intention was to disrupt and that is a more subtle artform that he knows.

Kerry owned the situation and did nothing, but perhaps he couldn't see what was going on clearly. A mimi-metaphor for the Kerry legacy. Anyone still puzzled as to why he lost the last election need look no further.

The Florida University Police were far too quick to resort to Tasers and I'll bet they get some retraining. Police in general are a little Taser-happy these days, but it keeps them from getting lethal.

not seeing clearly:

How was Meyer out of line? Other than being loud and annoying, he had every right to ask the senator anything he wanted.

How could not Kerry see what was going on clearly?

"Throughout this disturbing display, Kerry remained stoically focused on answering the young man's questions (the ones to him, not the ones he asked the police). Even as Meyer's shrieks grew in urgency, the Massachusetts senator reflected calmly on the importance of not contesting the results of the 2004 election.

Kerry's voice, however, was no match for Meyer's, who despite not having a mic continued to hog the audience's attention with such glib catch phrases as: "Help me! Help!" and "What are you doing! Get off of me! Don't Taser me, bro!

And a little-taser happy? WTF, ducadmo?

I think you should get your own eyes checked as well as your conscience.

Meyer was completely out of line
by topazz
he wasn't just asking a question of the speaker (Kerry) or just initiating discussion. He was on a complete tirade, out and out disruptive to the point where he should have been interrupted politely and asked to please sit down, and to either calm down or leave. You're right though, this should have been done by Kerry himself - instead, Kerry just stood there helplessly, trying to gauge what was happening. His inaction spoke volumes, and likely the impression will seal his future fate - much like Dukakis' was forever sealed by that image of his head popping up in a tanker, like woodstock from the Peanuts strip.
Had nothing to do with Kerry.

The police did it while he was attempting to answer the kid. Nice try Rush.
