Editorial italics?

"The other soldiers killed in the crash while "supporting Iraqi Freedom" (page 2)"

Was the omission of the word Operation in the article a typical error caused by poor writing/editing etc. in today's sorry media?

Or

Was the omission an editorial commentary attempting to be sarcastic?

Either way it is inexcusable when the article is quoting official documentation pertaining to the deaths of servicemembers.

The name of the military operation currently underway in Iraq is Operation Iraqi Freedom. Soldiers don't name operations. If you don't agree with the moniker, take it up with the appropriate people, don't mar the name of other soldiers, sailors or marines who have died while particpating in the Operation.

Must have been the former, since it appears to be correct now.

Someone did go back in, in the last hour or so, and add the word "Operation."

So now the question is... Why are there parenthesis around the phrase? Again, is it an attempt at sarcasm or is it because they are simply quoting the digital press relase.

Dear Vet-- I put quotation marks around the words that I quoted directly from the official press release. HD
