With this one post, you have relieved me of a long-standing regret. A few years ago, my favorite indie coffee shop here in our small town (Hilo, Hi) went up for sale. Due to some financial problems irrelevant here, a couple of months later, the price got really reasonable (cheap even). I wanted so much to buy it, as I had always had ideas about how I could run it better than the current owners. Alas, I couldn't find an investment partner and it was sold to someone who has proceeded to take it in the "wrong" direction and, in my opinion, ruin the place.

I have always had a vague lingering sadness and feeling of loss that I didn't get the shop. Your piece cured me of my romantic notions and made me realize I instead had a lucky near-miss.
