The PT standards are arbitrary & irrelevant. Had folks who could run like the wind in Ranger school but couldn't hump three miles. The PT standards have no scientific relationship to ability to perform a job or tasks within that job. The PT standards were irrelevant to Munley's manner of performance or that of the the women soldiers cited in the article for their bravery and their manner of performance. In this day and age of preponderantly mounted war, the ability to run sub-twelve minute miles is about irrelevant. The most feared command in the infantry remains, "Dismount!".
