toilet seat

The toilet seat argument is full of holes. How is it any less considerate for a man to leave the seat up than it is for a woman to leave it down? Woman want equal rights but consider this 'courtesy' grandfathered in, apparently. I think it's instinct to not want to touch the facility that you just peed in. Use a paper towel.

I agree, I've never understood this obsession of the American female. And by the way ladies, some guys have been known to pee with the seat down. I'm just saying...

I agree it is rather childish and I cannot envision myself complaining to my boss about a toilet seat; up or down

Ladies, it's a simple hinge - it goes up and it goes down. If the door is left closed do you walk into it face first? It's the same simple hinge arrangement - it swings open and it swings closed.

Hey if we're going to let things be grandfathered in.....how about we men grandfather in the women doing the dishes? We'll take out the trash and agree to put the seat down in return. If women want to throw in men mowing the lawn, then women must agree to clean the bathroom in return.
my take, if you ain't getting laid by the next user,

leave it in any position you damn well want to leave it.

works for many things in life, not just toilet seats

I immediately wrote off your post when you started with "Women want equal rights but..." Seriously? Every time a woman embarks on her own personal gender battle, do you have to bring it back to feminism and some conspiracy on the part of all women.

Also, I still don't understand why men need to lift the toilet seat to piss. There's a huge hole in the middle. I'm serious, someone explain in case there is a mechanical issue there I don't get. Why can't you just aim better and then we wouldn't have this issue?

Good question Pogue.

Actually it isn't necessarily as easy to aim as you imagine, because of the way the bladder valve (proper name?) tends, in the beginning of urination, to shoot very rapidly from the "closed" to the "fully open" position, bypassing any intermediate, and more easily controllable stages. So, like a hose that suddenly recieves a surge of water it spurts unpredictable forward.

Ergo, better if the seat is raised or there is a fair chance that it will get covered in urine.

So, do men do number 2 with the toilet seat up too? Face it, in a situation when one man and one woman are share a bathroom equally, the toilet seat will be used down more often. However, hygienically, not only the seat should be put down, but also the lid...

Because when men go #2, they are (hopefully) standing and can visually see where they're aiming. When women go #2, they sit and sometimes it's so second-nature to sit that we don't look: we expect the seat to be down because that is how we always use it, and sometimes...we fall in.

Take this Ultimate Frisbee example: if you're on offense and are trying to catch a disc in the end-zone, you're only looking for the disc. Now if you're that offense's defense-man, you're looking for the disc AND for the position of the offense-man. Therefore you are more responsible for not fouling them since you have the better, visual positioning.

Why is this so hard to understand? Fair play, baby.
