Returning regulars

Here's a thought.....

If a 'regular' leaves for a while and then comes back with a new alias, why not just re-introduce themselves with a "Hi, this is so-and-so, remember me, I used to be such-and-such". Gives a nice sense of continuity.

Okay, I suppose some people enjoy games of "let's see how long it takes for them to recognize me", and *maybe* some people even enjoy having more than one alias (though I can't fathom how low one's self-esteem would have to go before one resorts to 'multiple aliases' on a freaking internet site just to provide more 'support' for oneself...but if that's what floats your boat, well, okay !).....but for the most part, wouldn't it just more sense if other regulars just know who you used to be......??

My 2 cents.
I hope the underscore hasn't caused too much confusion...

By the way, I used to be known as anxiousmofo. Hope that clears things up...

I don't know if this is returning or not!

I expect that I will be back more often...I'm getting laid off/retiring in Dec. so I expect to have more time on my hands.

Right...

I’ve spent some time trying to think up a suitable rejoinder to your post. But in the end all I could think of were these twin notable quotes by Horace Mann:

“Every addition to true knowledge is an addition to human power.”

“Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.”

But in those quotes, perhaps, is one answer to your question. (Never mind that I'm not all that keen on the idea of working solely to improve the lot of humanity as such. The general principles embodied in the quotes are sound enough.) Sure, a person might wish to adopt an alter ego to trick others, to play games for self-amusement, or in order to serve as his or her own echo chamber. Then again, a person might see an alias a useful tool for conveying lessons that can’t otherwise be taught. Point is, I expect there can be reasons for creating multiple nicks that don’t relate to vulgar mischievousness or low self-esteem.

On the whole, though, I agree with you. “Guess who I am” charades usually get pretty tiresome pretty quickly. And honestly, it’s all well and good if someone wants to reinvent his or her online persona, but then in that case it’s only fair to expect that person to put some genuine effort into crafting a new and improved – or at least different – voice and perspective. Failing that, it seems to me that an erstwhile familiar poster might just as well identify himself or herself.

Cheers.

Bad luck, SL, but it can present opportunities. Good luck, we're rootin' for ya:)

Except of course the 'illegals' :)

Quite right k_g it is a bore.

I am sorry, maybe you will be happier though, one door closes ect. I have found myself in the same boat, well a little different but it was becoming an up hill battle for lots of reasons, and I decided to stop. It is quite scary at first but freeing and ok to have more time for ones self :)

Of course, this may cause us to be accused of being the same person by certain conspiracy theorists here who apparently have yet to learn that the lighter grade foil does not make for a very good hat as it breaks down in a few days letting the mind control rays in whereas the heavier stuff is good for weeks to months
