My next door neighbors refuse to open toys at their 3 year old son's birthday parties anymore until he and his invitees are a little older. Last year, the party devolved into a wailathon when the babies/toddlers realized that they couldn't keep the toys. I've seen this at other parties, even for kindegarten age kids(not wailing, but ugliness nonetheless). You'd hope your kid would get it, but who can tell?
