Doing What Works
by wmccomninel
I'm an Independent. Today Governor elect Christie of New Jersey had a press conference where he said he doesn't care which party the idea's originator belongs to, if the idea is good he will do what works. That means to me that political parties are largely irrelevant today, victims of their own success as it were.

Both NJ Senate and Assembly have Democrat majorities, therefore Christie had damn well better say that.

I used to live in NJ and just because they elected a Republican governor does not mean that it is any less blue or that they believe the crazy things the Southern Republicans do.

If Cody was the Democratic nominee instead of Corize, Christie would have lost by double digits.

Duh - Party affiliation means NOTHING when your candidate SUCKS and that the lesson the Democrats need to learn!

The fact that you 'voted with your feet' says more than anything else to me. I would do the same if the opportunity were to present itself. I have literally been around the world looking for just such an opportunity and now face the grim reality that it simply does not exist.
Great idea, let's see if he DOES it

What NJ needs is HONEST government, an end to years of rampant corruption, cuts in property taxes, and a modest income tax increase. Will Christie DO any of that? You know he's not going to raise taxes, so how's he going to cut the deficit?

NJ Governors have promised a lot in the past, let's see if one finally keeps some of his.

"You know he's not going to raise taxes, so how's he going to cut the deficit?"

Yep. It's not like there are two sides of an income-statement or anything...

..to reduce or eliminate a budget shortfall, you need either to cut spending or increase income or both. Dagget made the point that it would be impossible to cut enough to make up the deficit. Assuming that's true, you would need to raise taxes to help reduce or eliminate the deficit. Do you agree?

Would you say it was likely that a Republican Governor, even in NJ, would agree to raise taxes?

It's not like you're stupid, is it? You CAN read a post, right? Then how would you answer these questions?

It seems clear that it's not me who has difficulty with reading comprehension.
Ah, OK, gotcha

No substance, just snark. Well, you enjoy yourself then...

You really are just hopelessly lost, aren't you?

I was, briefly

...but that was only while I was looking for substance in your posts. Having found none, I'm pretty sure of my ground now.

You? :)

Ever consider the possibility that your failure to find substance isn't my fault? Even briefly?

Have a look back through the thread, just for sport.

Hmm

Was this bit of sarcasm an attempt to agree with me, by any chance?

Yep. It's not like there are two sides of an income-statement or anything...

If so, I apologize for misconstruing it.
