here's a wacky story, one I know this audience can
by Kal_Aline

appriciate...At my Alma Mater, New Mexico State University, the oldest building on campus is Goddard Hall. I always assumed it was named after Robert Goddard, the father of modern rocketry, being that he did his research and rocket launching in Roswell, New Mexico.

Well, I just read the alumni newsletter, and turns out it was named after is cousin, Ralph Willis Goddard. So for the past 25 years, I've been thinking the building was named after the wrong Goddard.

So here's the wacky part, they were both from Mass. and moved to New Mexico to get involved in their life's research, Robert in rocketry, Ralph, radio and communications. Even more wacky, Ralph died after being electrocuted working on the the radio transmitter he designed.

o.k., not so wacky, but if Robert had died in a rocket explosion, I'd bet you'd think it was spooky.

No, but what would be wacky/spooky is if Ralph was killed by a rocket his brother launched at the same time that Robert was electrocuted by Ralph's radio.
whooo-hoo, that's a good one...

beats out the original story that Ralph's ghost is haunting Goddard Hall.

I'd find it spooky if no-one ever got killed testing rockets.
