Waivers, atlernative measurements
by jenbinco
As a wellness coordinator I have looked very closely at Safeway's healthy measures program and I think it is a great idea. Here's a link to more detailed information about the program's requirements: <link> There are a few things that this article did not address. 1. Alternative measurements for BMI - waistline measurement 2. Waivers - for the poster who mentioned psychotropic drugs this would apply to someone like you Also, this type of program in conjunction with wellness programming and cultural changes to an organization that emphasize healthy eating and exercise make it more likely that employees can meet these goals. We should all be working towards meeting these goals. I think a 20% and possibly 30-50% discount on health insurance premiums might just be the swift kick in the butt Americans need to start controlling their health care costs.

Since you've looked very closely at their program, I'm curious--If an employee participates in an exercise program and/or lowers their cholesterol, blood pressure etc, but doesn't lose weight or reduce their waist size, do they get any credit for trying?

Never mind, I looked at your link and answered my own question. I'm surprised that they give a bigger incentive for BMI, though. Maybe you know, does the participant have to go down to the next lower BMI range, or just go down to a lower number? It seems that if someone was able to go from say 40 to 30 in BMI, that would be very valuable health-wise, but it's unclear from the chart if they would get the discounts since both numbers are "obese".
