Democrats GAINED a seat in Congress
by cassandra
It was only the local seats, with local issues, that the Republicans won.

It was in those "local" races that Obama campaigned heavily.

Nice try at spin there.

That race was screwed up by the local republican party who nominated a liberal to run on the Republican ticket. When she subsequently dropped out, she endorsed the Democrat.

Obama campaigned heavily in NJ and VA, and the Dems lost both races. Hopefully, this buries healthcare reform.

Healthcare reform is actually strengthened by the result in NY since, as the OP noted, the Dems actually *gained* a seat in the House.

The broader message is that if the Republicans insist on ideological purity, they will continue to lose elections.

I disagree. I don't think one house vote gains much strength and the govenor races showed possible weakness with obama's coat tails. I think you will see a slippage in Blue Dog support for healthcare reform.

LOL!

Yeah, losing a governor's seat in a swing state and in a state where the governor was very unpopular really PROVES that health care reform is dead. Take it to the bank!

LOL...and see if they cash it, sucka...:)

Not quite Ken. After all, read the articles that are coming out. They aren't, "decisive gain for Obama and Healthcare reform", are they? And what did Reid say? "We might not accomplish reform *this year*"?

Sounds more like backpeddling than "yahoo!" to me. Of course the repubs can screw up their tenuous hold on the ledge very easily as well.

Wouldn't opponents of health care find evidence of its doom in the passing of Ohio's Casino bill?
