I guess I just don't understand politics
by fsilber

I don't understand this business of voting for governor based on your opinion of the President, or the state of the economy. Until 1994 I typically split my votes between Democrat and Republican candidates, and voted specifically for black candidates because that's what a good liberal was supposed to do to fight racism. After 1994 I voted Republican (or Libertarian, when the Republican was a coward) to protests the gun control lies and conspiracy. That's why I didn't vote for Obama, but since the Democrats have (so far) abandoned that issue, I too can look at other issues. Obama has impressed me, and I just don't know what his critics want from him.

Sure, the economy is still crap. It may never again be anything but crap. But that's due to international trends in economic trade, not Obama. Yes, he'd like to transfer wealth from non-poor to poor via socialized medicine, but assuming it's done will it is far less likely to have the horrible anti-responsibility incentives that were produced by Welfare and Aid-to-Whores-with-Dependent-Children.

So, if I were voting for governor, I don't think my vote would have anything to do with Obama.

If you ever looked at the statistics re: welfare, you would have discovered that most of it is paid out to rural, White, working poor for a short period of time until they get back on their feet again. The Welfare Queen myth was discredited years ago.

Maybe if men stood up and actually paid support for the children they fathered, we wouldn't need aid to dependent children.

As for socialized medicine, Medicare is the most cost-effective and efficient methodology in the country. So bring it on!

If Obama campaigned for a canidate for governor in your state it would not influence you at all?

Interesting...

Actually, I believe the exit polls in NJ/Virginia suggested most people were not influenced one way or the other by Obama.

Which suggests that Obama's starpower does not translate to getting other Dems elected.

Should it? Did Bush get any Repubs elected? Why should it?

Well then, I guess it was very altruistic for the black political community to show such concern for rural poor white people. But there _were_ a great many people who chose to make welfare a generation-after-generation way of life -- that was the problem.

Men are not obligated to pay child support to the children of whores and prostitutes. That's why women are supposed to demand marriage before sex.

As for Mediaire, I saw a damning 60 Minutes episode about uncontrolled massive fraud in the system. So maybe the British approach makes more sense.
