Pogue nees to stop predicting.
by Pogue Mahone

OK so I got the 2 out of 3 part right....but I thought Corazine would win and Hoffman would win.....so I'm 1 for 3.

Implications?

Oh I have one more prediction.....lefty will spin this as though this is the best possible outcome they could have hoped for.....better than if they had won all three, in some convoluted sort of way.
Actually,

I was totally shocked that Owens won in NY. That was unexpected and I had given up NY23. But, I did think Corzine who had moved so close after Obama's visits - from being double-digits behind Christie would squeak through. I do know (from local news media here) that Corzine was not popular and I think it was the NJ economy more than anything. NJ often has GOP governors - no big deal. And, Dems losing the VA race was totally expected. So, we both got surprised!

We told you clowns a long time ago, that you need to get out of the "prediction business".

It hasn't served you well...AT. ALL.

The only one of the three elections that was interesting at all really was NY-23.

Deeds and Corzine did themselves in. I would have been surprised if either of them won. One went too negative in a state that typically votes the opposite party from the president into the Governor's mansion anyway. The other was just not trustworthy and nobody trusted him.

NY-23 was a weird one because it involved a "conservative" taking the Republican out of the race and a seat that hadn't gone Democratic in 100 years.

well, that's what spin is...

and we'll hear it from both sides...

No it's not the best possible outcome.

I'd rather have seen Corzine win in NJ and Owen lose in NY-23 than the other way around. Gay marriage in Maine looks like it's going down too. In other news an openly gay woman won the Houston mayoral race tonight but there will be a runoff. She didn't get more than 50%. I think the Dem won a special House election in CA tonight. The NYC Mayor's race turned out to be close. That woulda been sweet.

It got even weirder when the rep candidate endoresed the dem candidate. A case of the two parties coming together to support the two party monopoly?

not really surprised at any of the results - maybe that bloomberg's win was so much narrower than expected - that's about it.

Most likely it was because

Owens lived in the district. Too much "outside influence" by Tea Partiers.

Yep.

Absolutely, ann.

The crackpot wing, put all their "national resources" into this one district, that had been Repub for "a hunnerd years"...AND STILL LOST!!!

I was also surprised by Bloomberg's narrow win. Plus his main opponent was a dem...the left could spin that one in their favor as well. A beloved independent in a squeaker vs a dem.

the last dem resident in gracie mansion was dinkins, right?

bloomberg became an independent just before he ran in 2001. i think before that he was a dem, but didn't want to get bogged down in the dem machine politics that gave us dinkins and green, etc...

No.....Bloomberg won his first election as a republican. A VERY moderate, if not leftist republican, but a republican still. He had too run as a rep though, because Giuliani was so popular. Those coat tails came in handy.

Is this his third term, by the way? Giuliani tried to change the rules so he could run for a third term and he got laughed out of town even though he was a 9/11 hero. It would be curious if the people of NYC would grant an honor to Bloomberg that they would not grant to Giuliani.
