Rachel Menken could hire Joan?!
by tizzie.lish

Joan mentioned she's interested in a department store job, when she asked Roger to help her find a job. Too bad she didn't ask Don .. or too bad Roger didn't think of Menken's department store. I'm surprised Joan didn't think of it. Joan knows about Rachel Menken and her department store.

That would be a hoot, to see Joan working at Menken's, eh?

I'd love it too, but, Joan put down the idea of returning to the Coop by saying that even a department store job pays more than that. Perhaps she was waiting for Roger to offer a better salary, which sure didn't happen (since he'd have had to call St. John).

Joan is very much a woman of her time. I think she would not like working in a Jewish department store with a heavily Jewish clientele.

Remember her conversation with Sheila at Kinsey's party?

I think you are right, that Joan would not like working for Jews, ehbuchan. . . I am not certain that all the customers of Menken's department store would be Jewish. And I don't think the Jewish owners would put a non-Jew in a position of authority, which Joan would need. I don't think my suggestion is the least bit realistic . . it was just fun to make it.

I request a footnote or citation for this.
Anti-Semite Alert

Tizzie really is Dizzy.

Whenever I see one of Tizzie's posts, the hair on the back of my neck stands on end. At first, I thought she was simply a case of self-absorbed baby boomer who was full of herself. Now I realize it was just my anti-semite radar going off.

When I read your post above, I could not help but remember Don's "What's with you people" comment, when he fired Sal.

As Pete would say "Imagine such a thing".

No, Pete would say, "imagine, a thing like that". A small point but his wording always sounds funny to me so I remember it exactly.

I'll think that's a bigger jump than she made, and anyway, I'm more interested in the discussion than in providing St. Peter with notes on who to send where once they get before him. Tizzie's idea seemed impractical for and uncharacteristic of the group to which whom she refers, so I'd like to know the evidence for or against the idea.
