I think it's a show about space lizards that touches on hot button issues of the day, both those involving space lizards and also our more quotidian concerns, like health care.

Just because it may have some concious parallels to contemporary events does not make it an allegory. It could use Obama as a reference and still not be anti-Obama.

"Clearly anti-Obama"? The producer is Canadian and has built his career in sci fi. He's trying to make the show contemporary so it gets some extra attention. It's called marketing a new show.

Yes, but the pilot also says the Visitors have been linked to terrorists and have been manipulating events to ease their coming. Make things so bad people will welcome them with open arms. Shades of 9/11 conspiracy theories.

I don't know...those aliens look pretty hopenchangey to me. And all they ask is that you believe in their goodness. They probably wouldn't care for Fox News at all.

I found the show to be utterly conventional. References to current events (i.e. health care, terrorists, etc) more an attempt to "seem" relevant than to be relevant. This reviewer refers to the visitors as iguanas several times. Even in the pilot, characters are revealed to be reptilian under their human skin. If the big secret is out by the third commercial, it's headed to be a dull show. Alien invaders, invaders from the future, bodysnatchers, etc., are absolutely nothing new. Many shows that only made it a few episodes probably covered this territory in a more original way than this. People seem to be working overtime to impress us that "V" should have important themes. Look elsewhere.

Uh, yea, exactly; the show is from the early 80's. There are no new stories written; just old ones 're-written' (read f-ed up). How could this show possibly be anything but 'utterly conventional?' It's about lizards that look human living among us on earth undetected. Didn't 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper star in a film just like this? He probably hated Obama, too.

"They Live"! Roddy was shooting bankers and CEO's. "V" sucked in the 80's. It's gonna be a hoot, watching the Obama-haters talking about how great this steaming piece of shite is, just because they think it's dissing Obama. I think the writers are laffing out their arses at the FOX-heads who will trumpet this as important and exciting.
