They're right...conservatism is not dead...
by Reptilicus

it was never truly alive. Not even under Reagan...who raised taxes, spent money on "make work projects", increased Government bureaucracy (DVA) AND the number of Federal employees, even cut deals with them nasty Commies over intermediate missiles..

Certainly not under Dubya.

"Corporatism" maybe..and it might be on the ropes....but conservatism (as defined today...not in terms of Coolidge or Eisenhower) has never been successfully implemented in a century.

As much as the Right likes to talk of "Lefties dreaming of some Utopia can never exist"...it's them doing the dreaming.

Not at all.

While it is not possible to cut non-defense spending and entitlements, it most certainly possible to hold the line on future growth of government. You are looking for a level of ideological purity that is only possible in theory (see Libertarians for more pie-in-the-sky).

Kreit...ask around. You start supporting "hold the line, but no cuts"....you'll get the Scozzafava treatment.

True...whereas I evolved...you devolved. And part of that realization was that Roosevelt was right, Reagan was wrong but RR TALKED a good game, didn't he?

You are right. Liberalism has been the rule among republicans and democrats since FDR if not Wilson. Liberals have had supermajorities in both major parties since LBJ.

Which explains the moral and economic decay as well as the loss of freedom and out of control federal power and spending.

So wmou...when were the "Good Ol' Days" in your view? What point in American history?
Re: They're right...conservatism is not dead...

Economically, socially or politically?

That question is usually a trap to accuse me of supporting slavery or segregation.

Economically and socially the 1950s. Politically pre-civil war.

Even under segregation, blacks were better off socially. The Great Society destroyed black culture as their economic opportunities greatly expanded.

If you prefer government control over individual liberty, these are america's best days.

No, because you fell into the trap of your own accord.

So...blacks were "better off" under Jim Crow, huh?

wmou's right you limpdick.

Illiteracy, crime, illegitemacy, drug abuse......all social patholgy was way lower during Jim Crow than it is now.

Good Ol' Days dead and buried, cid....and you and "General" Thomas Chittum aren't bringing them back from the grave.

We're at the beginning.................and if you guys steal Jersey......and allow a big terror strike...........you'll see grandmas in the streets with rifles.

Only way for your desired "vision" to come true...is for Muslim terrorists to kill large numbers of Americans?

Yet YOU claim to be a patriot.

Weird.

LOL I told you that is what I am always accused of when I state the fact that black culture and daily lives were better before the Great Society programs. They had higher HS graduation rates than most white schools, the had fewer teen pregnancies, they had fewer divorces and much higher church attendance. Drug use, fatherless kids, defeatism and disgraceful public schools are common. Drop out rates are rediculous and dangerous. Few inner city streets are safe after dark. They were being oppressed economically and socially, but they had a solid culture.

Race is one of a person's least important attributes, so is their sex. Culture and nurturing have the biggest impact and the destruction of the black family was a direct result of misguided federal programs combined with the moral decay (sexual revolution) of the 1960s.
