Whose payroll is
by Loki's Curse

Ms. McMillan on? This is the most one-sided, ignorant, post I've seen on Slate during the past few years, and there has been some real competition for that.

Perhaps some irony in the fact that today's news has another massive ground beef recall, brought to you by her benevolent agribusiness.

Long live the Empire.

Care to back up that rant with something besides invective, i.e., facts or examples of what's wrong with the article? Or is your point that it must be wrong anytime anyone says anything that suggests that anything that a large farm does is anything other than pure evil?

Well, for starter's, the entire premise of the article is that big farmers treat their illegal immigrants better than small farms do.

There ya go, that's the article.

No mention of farm practices, local vs non-local (i.e. if the entire state of Iowa grows wheat, they have to import everything else, rather than growing other foods). What the pro's and con's are (do big farms have a better or worse environmental record, what is the impact if scale on farming) etc..etc..etc...

Yes, because this article wasn't about whether big farms are better than small farms in every way. It was about which is a better place to work (I didn't see anything in the article that mentioned illegal aliens, by the way. Many farm workers have special farm worker visas or are citizens).

Every article doesn't have to confirm your biases. This particular article looked at the big farm/small farm dichotomy from a different point of view.

False. The article wasn't about immigration. It was about how these farms treat anyone who works for them. But I guess when you're name is "therantguy," you have to read into the article something to rant about.
