Democratic Congress and Low Approval Ratings
by Anse

Think about it: if Democrats were doing what really needed to be done...

1. Cutting spending

2. Raising taxes

3. Putting all new domestic programs on hold until the budget is balanced

...their approval rating would be close to zero. It might be higher if they had the guts to put an end to funding the Iraq occupation.

It takes guts to do the right thing after ten years of Republican terror on the government.

So, the approval rating is low because they are cowards?

Just asking.

No, it would be an act of cowardice to do what Americans have fooled themselves into believing is possible: escalate spending, cut taxes, and spend a billion bucks a week on a war of dubious necessity. We can thank Repugnants for giving the people a taste of the fantasy life.

it's dems/indies dragging them down
by mercurial1
because of inaction on the war and impeachment. I don't even consider the matter debatable
Re: Repugnants?
by suck_ballut

Of course the Democrats have nothing at all to do with any of that, right?

Please spare me the partisan BS.

Not a single Democrat voted for the increased spending bills, or bills to cut taxes, or for the bill that allowed the President to wage this "war of dubious necessity", right?

I agree

but most do not want to get involved with the mud sling that would take place. But think what our markets would look like then.

Right. Repugnants blaming Democrats for voting with Repugnants. This kind of silliness passes for legitimate political discourse among the Repugnants.

Feel free to bash Democrats all you want. If they were doing what they really need to do--what any party in the position they are in today should be doing--you would have nothing but absolute bile to spew about 'em, because you likely still hold to the ludicrous Bush ideal: cut taxes, expand spending.

GOPers purposefully ignore the fact
by Horus
...that Repubs are obstructionists and that Dem majorities are thinner than sliced deli meat. In fact in the Senate, they haven't really had a majority with Johnson out and Lieberman voting Repub on the Iraq issue.
Re: I agree
by FunkZilla

Democrats always FAIL at whatever they do...that's why they're rated so low.

The BEST thing to show how incompetent democrats are is to let them run things...ie New Orleans, New Jersey, New York, D.C...etc...etc...

Incompetents, LOL.

Look at Washington and who is running it. Thx. You proved my point.
Wow!

No. In essence what I said was that Democrats voted with them and should share the blame for the mess. You are the one that attempted to blame the current atmosphere and all of its problems solely on "Repugnants".

Feel free to bash Democrats all you want.

I am not bashing Democrats. I am responding to your refusal to accept that they share the blame.

What about my posting history, or lack thereof, has given you any indication that I would do such? Or, is it common practice for you to automatically assume anybody that might question your viewpoint is the complete polar opposite of yourself and thereby worthy of immediate reproach?

The GOP
by barentw

has filibustered everything the Dems have put forward, basically. And if it snuck out of congress Bush would veto it anyway.

My only issue is that the Dems have backed down and not forced the GOP's hand. Reid CLAIMS he's going to with the next Iraq bill, but we'll see.

Re: The GOP
by FunkZilla

WHAT have the dems 'put forward'??

ROFLMFAO!

Seriously...the iraqi government has accomplished more than the Democrats in congress...what a fucking joke.

Which is probably part of the reason for the low rating.
by suck_ballut

However, my point to Anse was that Democrats share the blame for the current situation we are in here, as well as, abroad. To say otherwise is just fooling yourself.

Not equally, though.
by barentw
Bush and the GOP ran everything for 6 years (well, 4 anyway, the Dems led an essentially tied Senate for two). You can blame the Dems who voted for Bush's war powers, but the responsibility for its conduct and success (or lack thereof) is 100% Bush and the GOP. He was given everything he asked for and failed completely.
