Cheney "can't recall" 72 times

WASHINGTON (AP)— Federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald famously declared in the Valerie Plame affair that "there is a cloud over the vice president." Last week's release of an FBI interview summary of Dick Cheney's answers in the criminal investigation underscores why Fitzgerald felt that way.

On 72 occasions, according to the 28-page FBI summary, Cheney equivocated to the FBI during his lengthy May 2004 interview, saying he could not be certain in his answers to questions about matters large and small in the Plame controversy.

The Cheney interview reflects a team of prosecutors and FBI agents trying to find out whether the leaks of Plame's CIA identity were orchestrated at the highest level of the White House and carried out by, among others, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Cheney's chief of staff.

I'm sure if Fitzgerald could move it forward, he would. I don't believe he ever officially "closed" the case.

don't forget AG Holder is investigating the torture that went even beyond the Bush "illegal" guidelines. hopefully, that will reveal who ordered what.

Any lawyer will tell you (from Nixion on down), that the best way to avoid a charge of perjury is to say "I do not recall".

I would say that Cheney has learned this lesson well.

That's true.

It was plainly obvious from the moment the CIA asked the Justice Department to look into the leak, thet the entire Adminstration had lawyered up big time.

One of the reasons that Cheney was so angry at Bush over the lack of a pardon for Scooter Libby was that Libby was the fall guy.

His job was to stick out his jaw and go in and get grilled in front of the Grand Jury and then report back the Cheney and Rove about what the Special Prosecutor knew or suspected.

Which is why Rove changed his story four times, and even then barely escaped indictment.

(it was also apparant that they had a long running spin campagn in the works including drilling the faithful into repeating false claims like "no underlying crime", that Plame wasn't covert, etc, etc, etc,

The one thing that the Bush team never had on their side in this affair was the truth.

Once the health care bill is signed, the President will have the option of going for cap and trade, or using the opportunity to look under the mountain of rocks left behind by the most corrupt Administration since Warren Harding.

The Plame case is a good place to start.

love what Biden said...don't care what "fat head" Cheney thinks!
"Can't recall", shouldn't be a freebie. There should
by spreadsheet
be a cost attached. That cost should be, "You're fired!" After all....maybe these dudes really couldn't recall and how would we prove otherwise? On the other hand, we PAY these guys to know what's going on. So if they don't, of what use are they?
