And the "Steel Magnolias" Tension Breaker Award goes to...
by heyjude64

...Peggy Olson, for asking, "Did you give me a hickey?" and making me laugh just as I was ready to cry right along with Betty and Carla.

I was only six when John Kennedy was murdered. Too young then to know now if my memories are from those days, or from the countless times that footage has appeared on television or in films. I can only imagine the national feeling was akin to 9/11.

When Betty witnessed the Oswald murder and screamed "What's going on" it puts in perspective the birth of the era of the conspiracy theory. What were those people thinking?

That may be, but Peggy IMHO had what is the defining statement of this episode, the entire series, and what this show has been building up for:

"What just happened".

I think the Kennedy assassination was the defining entry point to the 60's, and I think, while we have seen precursors to what the rest of the decade will provide, most of the first 3 seasons have all still been stuck in the pre-modern era, with the Derby Party the ultimate send-off for the pre-modern era.

I can't wait to see the finale. How do they top this episode? Where do they go? What cliff hangers will they leave us with? The Don/Betty possible divorce is a given. Will we see Roger and Joan back in the sack? Pete and his wife seem to be making a real awakening as a power couple,
What's next?!

I think what Betty and many were feeling was a fear about who's going to be shot next, just as we were wondering, after four planes crash, where the next one would hit.
