I wouldn't count on it
by senbassador2

Marriage isn't just about prohibition. Prohibition implies some activity that can be done in the absence of a governing body. Since you need the government to have your marriage, its not really prohibition when the government says no; hence much trickier. Remember, there was once prohibition against gay people having sex (at least in some states). The law was overturned on the grounds that its too much government, but that argument won't work for marriage licenses. Its still legal to have a gay wedding and list it in the NYT (since thats the private sector doing it).

As for pot, our last three Presidents (counting Obama) admited to smoking it. The last two were also known to do more than just pot. If you think any of these hipporities will legalize pot anytime soon, you must be on something yourself. Remember, NEVER trust a former pot head to legalize pot. If you want pot or prostution to be legal, its best to vote for someone who never did it, and is otherwise sqeaky clean.

As for travel to Cuba. Well, Cuba is a former communist country turned socialist. Obama is a socialist. So there you go. Restrictions on travel to Cuba have some chance of getting lifted ;-p.

Obama did cocaine.

By last two, I've meant Obama and GWB.

I am giving Bill Clinton the benefit of the doubt that he only did pot, only since he neither admited to it nor had there been witnesses that I know of.

What exactly is "hipporities"? I've never heard that word before.

A fraternity of hypocrites, perhaps? I like it!

China is still ruled by the Communist Party. George W.Bush spent several days there last year. Is George W. Bush a Communist?

You need the government to get married only to obtain government benefits. Marriage licenses are a racist tool and should be abolished.

Are you claiming that couples haven't been crossing the border to get married outside of their home state or country? Or that they haven't been holding purely religious marriage ceremonies without government approval?

obama a socialist.

bah-that is nothing but biased conservative media talking points.

was a bush a socialist when he bailed out the banks and car companies.

was a bush a socialist when he increased the federal government to historic levels.

was a bush a socialist when he expanded that socialist government run health care called medicare.

was bush a socialist when he expanded federal aid to education.

you and most conservatives have no idea what a socialist is.

My comment was meant to be tongue-in-check. No, Obama is not a socialist, however he is very left wing.

Can't say I liked GWB any better.

Also, I was against the bank bailouts from the get go. I was against it when Bush did it and I am against it now that Obama is expanding it.

You can cross state lines to get hitched, or have all the gay weddings all you want. Just don't expect the state you're currently in to recognize it.

My point is, if the government doesn't recognize it, then it doesn't count. I don't agree with it, but thats the law.

You're focusing on the wrong prong. People can still get married without government approval without risking punishment. That is not true for smoking pot.

One is asking the government to officially validate a behavior, the other is asking government not to punish a behavior. Only the second is a prohibition.

But I bet you voted for him. Twice. (I know, “The Democratic Candidate was worse”.

It is the theme song Conservatives always use for their 100% voting loyalty).

And you will vote 100% Republican in 2010 and 2012, regardless of the consequences.

Because that is what Conservatives do.
