Death by Chocolate?

I was reading back articles and came across this letter from a bride who's deathly allergic to chocolate and is having a problem with her relatives-to-be who are insisting that the wedding must feature a chocolate cake.

Aside from the fact that pretty much every wedding cake I've ever tasted has been fruitcake and that a very common wedding custom is for the happy couple to feed each other a piece of cake (perhaps the family is hoping the bride will drop dead at that point?), this brings up a more worrying problem.

How safe will it be for the bride to eat at her in-laws' homes after the wedding? If they disrespect her and ignore her very real health issues now, why would that suddenly change after the wedding? She mentions that chocolate isn't her only serious allergy. I can forsee that Thanksgiving dinner or any other occasion may feature one of the ingredients she's allergic to and that they won't even mention it. I don't know if they're anticipating the drama of a 911 call or if they just "don't believe in" allergies, but this looks like a recipe for disaster to me.

I'd be seriously wondering whether they ALREADY have an insurance policy on her.

If they inflict chocolate on her and it kills her, does it count as murder in the first or just manslaughter?

What??? Fruitcake is made with heavy batter and filled with dried fruit and nuts that you get at Christmast and most people don't like. Most wedding cakes are white flour, sugar, and eggs, with white frosting.

Side note, what's with the recent postings talking about articles from several weeks ago?

I don't think Shevy means the heavy and dense-as-brick fruitcake. He/she is most likely referring to a white cake with fruit either in the cake or in the frosting. The bane of my existence as a child, by the way. "OH SWEET, cake! I love cake! Cake, cake, cake! Wait, what the fuck? RAISINS?!"
