Vista ‘till the Cows Come Home
by Gatewood
+1/-2 Reply

We are not upgrading the desktop operating system. We’ve never had a moment’s trouble with Microsoft’s Vista operating system and have no interest in the intrusively helpful [as it’s being advertised and reviewed] Windows Seven system.

I think the Microsoft company shot themselves in the foot. The last two or three operating systems [once they got the bugs out] have operated just fine for most people and so there’s no sense in shelling out nearly three hundred dollars for the next operating system which hasn’t yet had its bugs identified by users and ‘fixes’ cranked out for them. Besides which, there’s the ram problem.

Each ‘upgrade’ of MSN’s Windows system always requires a significant upgrade in computer ram [random access memory] and perhaps even the motherboard itself depending on how old the hardware is. Sometimes it’s the megahertz. If you ain’t got enough mega then you are in for a world of expensive hertz. Meh, geek humor.

Then there’s the software. It’s got to all be reinstalled and that’s sooooooooooo much fun! Bah! I’ll switch to Windows Seven only after my current, relatively new, Desk Top goes belly up and needs replacement. At that point the new operating system will be relatively bug free and come bundled with the new desktop. It will be part of the entire new machine experience and seem like the pleasant side of an upgrade rather than the nightmare side that it would be at this point in time for us.

So we will not [the computer gods willing] be looking to upgrade anything for another three years at least – except for the printer, of course. We go through a printer at least once per year. So suck on that Microsoft.

I was worried when I bought my new computer, last year ,as well, when I decided to go with Vista Home Premium because of all the initial complaints we heard. But, I researched it and decided most of whatever was a problem had been worked out and many of the personal reviews, were so glowing, that I figured it would be a wise choice.

I am glad that I did.

It's been a joy! My computer is blazing fast,(as they say in that commercial ,on TV) and I enjoy the added features and great color contrast with it ,as well.

Fun Side note: worked charge on a psych unit ,yesterday and going in to the same Medical Center to work there again, today..in a few hours..I was thinking, there yesterday as I was going about handing out Ativan and Seroquel that after reading some of the stuff here and on , our neighboring frays, of late..that my patients here,(at work), are a really a far cry more stable than much of what we have witnessed on Slate,of late.haha.

(teasing the sillies here..but, seriously...while working yesterday, that thought crossed my mind)

:-)

Hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween and had a nice weekend..those of you, who live among the mortals and not the ghouls, that is.

Best to GW.

Have a good day!

:-)

thanks for letting us know that. I can really see what you mean when you talk about the quality of your posts and how no one else can match up. Oh...a couple of geek points. Firstly, no processor left on almost anyones computer has a speed measured in megahertz. Secondly, you could have bought windows 7 for 50 dollars a couple of months ago. We'll take the fact that you didn't know that as an indication of just how tech savvy you are. But none of these things really matter I guess as LAM is already here licking your boots for affection. Do us all a favor and pet her on the head already.
Yes, Vista's been a

sweet operating system for us. No problems there.

As for the similarities between official loons and Fray loons, at least you know that the ones in the wards are properly medicated.

Some folks are just driven to let everyone know they are low lifes. It was not necessary in your case, acro...we already knew.

When did I say that I was

tech savvy? I know just enough to eventually fix whatever problems my ignorance or the vagaries of software and hardware throw my way.

Yeah, it's gigahertz now and I don't know about the cost of Windows Seven and I don't want to know. Have I managed to hurt your feeling on the subject yet? You just might consider duplicating NickD's decision to take some time off from posting. You have already degenerated to being just another inveterate ankle biter, which makes you harmless enough, but I think I am also seeing signs of incipient melt down on your part. Think about it.

Why would anyone care?

Your opinions in this matter you readily admit are ill-informed. Who cares what you think? Do you think you're being topical? Who cares what you do?

Well - I'll give you this - I consider myself ignorant on technology. Thanks for making me feel better about myself.

Last thought: Do you think Microsoft wants your business?

Somehow, I find it reassuring that you don't get Alec Baldwin's humor.

The fact that you admit you know nothing on the subject yet choose to write about it is what distinguishes you from a lot of the people over at The Other board. They have the ability to self censor, to say to themselves "I don't really know anything about this, nor do I assume that people will want to read my every passing thought so I won't post something right now." You seem to lack that ability. That's why it's so amusing when you deriding others for not top-posting more. Plus, you're a a racist.
This is about as non-controversial as one of your posts get
by anxious_mofo
But it apparently struck a nerve. Go figure.

I just upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard and my PC to Windows 7, because my employers keep my work computers fat and happy, and my home computer (a MacBook Pro which boots into both Mac OS X and Windows) is only about a year old. Your choice is probably the right one for your situation; my choice is the right one for mine.

have you seen the latest Apple ads? They are 'wicked clever' as my teenage relatives in New England might say. And they are spot on. As is your post here. Me? I'm a Mac.
It's called Over There, acro ...

or as we like to call it, Geezehristan. (You must have missed that Top Post the other day.)

I think Cicero (Gatewood)'s comments here are probably representative of what a lot of PC users are thinking right now. Where's the harm? Or did you just come Over Here (aka The Mother Ship) to whine and snark? (No reply is needed; we know the answer.)

Btw, when ARE you going to do some Top Posts? Just curious. Welcome to BOTOFistan, Mohammed Bin Acro.

Microsoft wants his business ...
by SpeakerNancy

and needs it, too. Obviously, you care what Cicero thinks or you wouldn't have replied. Non?

Really, TQM, you could have returned from your little recent hiatus with a stronger offering.

Non?
