Impractical and pointless

1) How many times have you knocked the power cord out of your laptop? Mac invented a technology just to deal with that occurrence!

So, now, instead of the laptop going to the battery, it's going to turn off and i'll lose any unsaved work (not to mention the danger of bending/breaking the battery connector things). Wonderful.

2) When Apple announced the new iphone, customers who had the old one clamored for upgrade pricing so they could turn in their one year old phone in for the new version.

So, how long exactly does the average battery need to last?

I am at 18 months with my KRZR phone, the second I can't get a full day out of it battery wise, it's going in the garbage and I'll just get new phone.

The real story is that rather than spending your time trying to keep batteries at between 40-80% or sticking them in the freezer, you should use the damn things however you want and odds are you will either replace that piece of tech before the battery goes or you'll have to deal with the minor inconvenience of buying a new battery.

Case in point, I've had four ipods. One broke when I dropped it (after two years of constant use), one died and was replaced by Apple, one is an original nano that I'll chuck when it goes and last is my six month old classic. So, five years of ipods and nary a battery replacement to be found.

And I've saved all that ridiculous effort trying to "manage" the batteries. Which most people need like a hole in the head.

If you don't need your battery to last a while, you don't have to follow these guidelines. People are smart enough to recognize when they want to prolong their batteries and when they don't. They don't need you to point out to them that it's not always required.

Stop ranting and start listening. You might just notice that some of us keep our devices around for a lot longer than you do. To paraphrase a famous aphorism, if it ain't broke, why replace it?

I had a KRZR too and ended up replacing the battery twice in the 20 months I had it. The whole phone was a piece of garbage. That's the one and only Motorola product I'll ever buy.

But I agree with your larger point. How much convenience are you sacrificing to get a marginal increase in battery performance? Doesn't seem worth it to me, especially when the rest of the gadget isn't designed to last longer than the crap-ass battery anyway?

Brilliant advice! People are such fools for trying to get their money's worth from the things they buy!
