I am normally a Dana Stevens fan, but I'm put off by the smugness of her declaration that the popularity of Paranormal Activities means that, you know, wow, sometimes the heartland rubes get it right after all. This review is something of a johnny-come-lately - the movie has been out for weeks, and the cultural zeitgeist is on the downturn, not up. As for the film as financial allegory, well...Slate has a habit of making every cultural point about the economy (not unreasonably so), but this is a bit of a stretch.
