Several REAL reasons the Right fears HC Reform passing-
by Reptilicus
+1 Reply

1. It will give a boost to Obama and the Dems going into 2010 and 2012.

2. It will prove the Right..i.e. the GOP leadership, AM talk radio, Fox News, the Town Hollerers, and the Tea Partyers....couldn't stop "a government takeover of health care" and ARE weak and irrelevant.

3. Like their OWN admissions on Medicare and Social Security, it will be "too popular to touch", i.e. eliminate....thus an admission that once a liberal domestic policy item is enacted, the public rejects conservatism on it.

I think you nailed it.

It will kill one of the geese that heretofore laid golden eggs as well.

Lobbying spending overall is way off this year, after skyrocketing during the Bush years.

The one bright spot is the insurance and big pharma industies who have poured hundreds of millions into a battle that it now appears that they are going to lose.

Once this bill passes, the fundamental rules of the health care world will change forever.

In a few years time, the public option will be expanded and replaced with a government run Medicare type system. This will be accelerated if the private insurance industry tries to run the coop the way they've been used to doing business in the past.

So, no more big K Street paydays from the insurance and pharma industries!

Repubs are not your problem. Other Dems are your problem. What you should be posting is the real reasons some Democrats fear HC Reform passing-

1. Obama and the Dems will loose going into 2010 and 2012.

2. It will prove the Right..i.e. the GOP leadership, AM talk radio, Fox News, the Town Hollerers, and the Tea Partyers....were Right

3. Like their OWN admissions on Medicare and Social Security, it will be a disaster

Alice,

1. Of COURSE the Dems will "loose" seats in 2010. Historical precedents. Except for Dubya in 2002 (who used 9/11 to smear good men like Max Cleland)....EVERY recent President lost seats in the first mid-term of their first term....Reagan-1982, Bush-41-1990, and Clinton-1994. Even Repubs know they should AT THE LEAST pick up 20, of not 25.

Now, political infants such as yourself will see that as "See? See? People waking up! Obama doomed in 2012!"....and forget Reagan in 1984 or Clintion in 1996.

2. If the Right was powerful....NO health care bill would pass. If a public option plan passes, it will prove that Dems feel "safe" in ignoring the "Town Hall" people or Tea Partyers.....why is that???

3. Why don't Republcian propose eliminating Social Security and Medicare then?....answer?

They're too popular....and the obvious "true conservative" "solution" on those issues...isn't.

That is what The Left was saying last week and when Obama was elected, 'See? See? People waking up' and that The Right was OVER! NOW you are saying "Of COURSE the Dems will "loose" seats in 2010"to the Right that was suppose to be OVER!

NO! They will feel "safe" in hoping MOVEON.ORG will not threaten them with loosing 5 million votes!

NO! You answer the question of why the Left complained and complained and complained about Social Security, Medicare, and Gov't ran veteran hospitals during the Bush years but now act like there NEVER was a problem!

Hmm but this is circular logic. You're a moron, so you probably don't know what that means. Let me spell it out for your tiny little brain stem. You're claiming that the reason they're trying to stop HCR is that because they're trying to stop it, if they failed they'd be weak.

Re: Several REAL reasons the Right fears HC Reform passing-

No, quite linear logic.

They're opposing health care reform because it will hurt their ideology if it passes.

One, because if it succeeds in its goals, it will prove Government CAN work and thus Grover Norquist/Reagan conservatism is down for the count...atleast a generation.

And two, they also must maintain their own illusion (to the base like alice and you) that "America is STILL a right-of-center country, despite Obama's win and Dem control of Congress, opposition from the Tea Partys and Town Halls PROVE that.".

But, if the bill passes regardless, by politicians (such as Blue Dog Democrats) it would PROVE that that is not true. And that the TPs and screamers ARE a minority and thus break the bombastic self-deception that "The country is still conservative!!!!"

alice, unless the GOP wins the House in 2010...or comes within 5 or less votes of doing it...

it is not a "rejection of Obama'ism" anymore than 1982 was of Reagan, 1990 was of Bush.

You guys need a "1994 Gingrich Revolution"...or else all your hyperbole is proven dead wrong.

Which means they need to capture some 40 Democratic house seats in 2010? Good luck with that, the polls are no where close to that.

You'd THINK as "awful" as they say Obama and the Dems are....40 seat would be the MINIMUM.

That is...if facts and public opinion were on their side.
