I'm no Chris Brown fan...

...but I'd say the fact that his new single is "currently at No. 27 and rising on Billboard's Hot 100 chart" answers the question of what we do about him.

I only know him from the DoubleMint commercials, but I don't see what the hair pulling is all about. I mean, if he didn't actually hit Jonah Weiner, I don't see what the issue is.

Every artist has demons. Is it so hard to separate the person from the artist from the art? And to indict his collaborators Swizz Beatz (who I know from Madden '09) and Lil Wayne (who I think I know from Gatorade commercials) is especially offensive. It almost suggests a blacklisting mentality to say that artists should avoid working with their more controversial peers.

controversial means its a matter of controversy, that some people support it. Legalizing Marijuana is a perfect example. Now, what is so "controversial" about beating up your girlfriend? do you support it?

That's a rhetorical trick. It isn't the abuse that's controversial, it's Brown himself, the total package which includes the abuse and the art. The controversy is whether the abuse nullifies the art, and is apparently not a controversy at all to the demographic that really matters - those who pay for his music. We can pontificate all we want but his fans will keep buying his music, which was the point of my original post.
