Magic Happens?

Children are natural audiences for magic because they are discovering the world and they do indeed want to work out cause and effect. At a magic show expectations are upended and we are left wondering how what know happens in the physical world was trumped. Children are thrilled by this and some want to work out how it happened and others merely revel in the entertainment value. Too many adults, on the other hand, seem to have forgotten their is supposed to be cause and effect at all. They "feel" something is true and so ignore evidence. They engage in faith based thinking far beyond the realm of religion. Worse, they bring their religious faith based thinking into the realms of education, democratic action and public policy. If more adults were as concerned with cause and effect, experiment, exploration and discovery as children, what a fascinating world we would inhabit.
