Third-quarter GDP reading shows growth at 3.5 percent pace
some good news !
by macrol
Now we need some real job growth to keep it going.
But what happens when we run out of MonopolyMoney

Brisk spending by the federal government played into the third-quarter turnaround. Federal government spending rose at a rate of 7.9 percent in the third quarter, on top of a 11.4 percent growth rate in the second quarter.

What's left to do now is JOB CREATION.

C'mon, private sector! Start using some of that newfound liquidity and contribute to society. Hire people! Our country is sure to rebound completely if everyone does their part.

Even if you are mad because you think others aren't doing their part, do your part anyway. Rise above any disdain for the poor. If you can, help others. Are you being a hater when you could be a hero?

My company laid off 10% of its workforce in February this year - not because they were hurting, but because they had the excuse to do it. In fact, ours is an industry that benefits when business must find ways to cut back....so those of us left work 10-12 hours per day instead of only 8 or 9 to make up for those let go. It worked out great for the company and they threw us a bone when they upped one quarter's bonus by a percentage point.

So, damn straight, MY company can afford to hire BACK people at the very least. Will they do it? I doubt it.

You guys should form a Union and go on strike for better working conditions and less hours. Bring in some muscle from Union HQ and puncture tires and smack around the less cooperative co-workers

Large companies learned long ago that paying overtime was cheaper than hiring more workers.

So what if your workers are unable to enjoy life....that's not what we hired you for. lol

Why must management always disregard its labor force? And then trying to start some shit. I think pro-management types could care less about us. Workers built this country, and they deserve an equal shake. We aren't thugs, you just try to goad us into some kind of political warfare by shitting on us then buying an island in the Caribbean. If this isn't you, you still think someday the same could be yours. How? Win the lottery? We must face the fact that the vast majority of us are still subservient to the minority upper crust. And I, for one, am tired of eating their crumbs. I don't crave fame or money, just understanding of others.

If you really think you're an American Patriot, you should be hiring people. Love them, instead of money. God can take care of us all. Please allow Him to. Help the poor, and He will help us.

Peace and Light

Well....here's the thing:
by amfh

Employees in my company are either salaried or paid as contractors by the hour, and those hours worked by contractors are set in stone.

So, salaried people don't get paid overtime - we just work longer hours.

Salaried people where I work (including me) have traditionally worked extra hours we do get some crumbs we jokingly refer to as Chinese Overtime which is a formula that pays the equal of 1/2 of your hourly pay for the 1st hour but decreases for each additional hour worked (sliding pay) . Business has dropped here but locally the only cutbacks has been contract workers in our fabrication facilities. Some of the operations in the MidWest did have some layoffs

Where I work salaried workers sometimes work extra hours but they also can take time off without it affecting their sick leave or vacation. As long as they work 4hrs and 1 minute they can take the rest of the day off with their supervisor's permission. They are also entitled to larger raises, education hours added each year that they can use as vacation and many more extra benefits so listening to them saying they don't get paid for extra hours is laughable.

Hourly employees do get overtime when needed but they also have to account for every minute of the day as everything comes off their vacation or sick leave.

From the same place as the salaried workers.

Third quarter included cash for clunkers, since then auto sales have gone down. Third quarter report means nothing.
