Bordeaux and Dordogne
by Maigret
Well it does sound like you know your way around restaurants in Paris. After many years of trips to France we've come to the conclusion that the best food may be found outside Paris -- in the Dordogne and also in Bordeaux itself. Perhaps a situation where the chefs in Bordeaux either try harder or take more risks --or both. After Bordeaux we head into the Dordogne and rent a renovated old farmhouse on the the Dordogne/Charente border. From here we can visit St Emilion, Cognac, Brantome, the caves etc etc all on easy day or 1/2 day trips. The food throughout the Dordogne/Charente is simply superb. We've rented a lovely old restored farmhouse twice now through www.dordogneholidaylets.com. The payment system is easy and safe and you get to see lots of photos so you know what your going to arrive to. We've found the ability to walk from the house into the local village -- croissant in the mornings and also for lunches and dinners has really made the time there special. It also means you don't have to worry about driving after a glass or 2 of wine.Having a full kitchen also means we've self catered more than on any other trip --this too has lead to many wonderful meals and memories.
