Yes, but...
by dfs
Quoth Kaplan: "This is not 'dithering,' .... It's what any president should do before deciding to go to war." So true, so they should. But here's the thing. We're already at war. While Obama non-dithers, good people are dying. And the Taliban are doing something that looks suspiciously like winning.

All right, I'll bite. What, exactly, are you proposing, such that "good people" would no longer be dying? And to the point about "dithering" -- a now widely used term that, if nothing else, is proof positive of the American addiction to vapid, but entertaining to many, sloganeering -- what fruits have been borne of the previous eight years of non-dithering? Near as I can tell, we're only now getting around even to contemplate what "winning" means. Is your concern that we might end up defining it in a way that makes it look like the other side (whoever that might be) is seen to have "won?"

The US already won the "war" in 2001. Al Qaida is gone from Afghanistan. The Taliban represent zero threat to US security.

Obama is probably having trouble finding anyone who can rationally explain why our highly lethal, high-tech, expensive military should be asked to dismount, take off their helmets, and play policeman for a bunch of primitives who despise them.
