This kind of serial attacking leaves me wondering how seriously to take the opinions of Slate.

I think the reasons they are being attacked is that as the article says they got most of what they wants and it resulted in a catastrophe and now their recommended solution is to give them more of what they want.

Not to mention that they have historically been on the wrong side of a lot of issues even they would now love to disassociate themselves with.

They are a lobbying organization pure and simpler and their sole goal is to increase corporate profits. If you think that drives growth maybe you should take a closer look at US economic performance in the last 100 years, or even the last 40.
