Priceless. Check out the Chinese car industry's original designs:

You have GOT to be kidding.

I've been looking at cars after a long time of not noticing them, and they all mostly look the same.

How do you people come up with this stuff? Do you enjoy deamonzing people based on anything that pops into your mind?

The Chinese were going to build cars in Mexico and sell some of them here, for $6,000. I was looking forward to that because I CANNOT AFFORD A CAR or the damn insurance for one because you Republicans are so sick and greedy...and the Russians were going to build a steel mill in Ohio.

What happened to that, eh? What happened to FREE TRADE!

and Trader Joes is German owned, and Miller Lite is South African owned. BUT, these companies making a killing on American soil, fairly I should add, are managed by companies whose CEO's have white faces. Chinese companies? Not so much. You gotta draw the line somewhere, right China protesters?

Are you some kind of idiot? By pointing out that Chinese industry is notorious for completely ignoring IP laws and stealing designs that other companies have invested time and money in then I'm somehow a racist Republican?

C-Tips, 2 points: you and Philly-Steve's name-calling aside, this article was about Chinese protests of a U.S. company's lack of respect for copyright laws. Apparently, you are not bothered by this. I know, rather than actually reading the article, just seeing the word China to the Gertz crowd is like waving a red flag in front of a bull, right? So, you chime in with your criticisms/insults of China (and you don't like responding criticisms of your criticisms). Tough. Second, you obviously know nothing at all about copyright laws as interpretted by the 2 countries (who are each others' 2nd largest trading partners). If it was really information that you wanted--and you were, you know, not so proud of ignorance, you could have read this article, and then read the post near the top here, obviously written by some global-based copyright attorney who knows more about the subject than the writer of the article.

er, I know almost every single commerical in America is designed to kiss your butt, dumb fat white guy is coolest, forgets birthdays, drips hamburger juice on himself, drinks beer and belches, and of course, prefers the dumb blond babe, but on a global scale, don't you white guys ever question the extent to which your own ideas of your own self-importance are delusional? Why not?

Monster Ballads Suq: I don't know who Gertz is, so I'm not sure if I'm part of his crowd. I'm not American, nor entirely white. My politics are generally left of centre. As such, a lot of your childish rant is off target, although I'm not even sure how my politics or what colour I am is relevant except when indulging in the lazy stereotyping you seem so quick to jump to based on a couple of sentences I have written.

My OP simply pointed out that the Chinese have a lax attitude to IP (something i do know a fair bit about as a designer) when it benefits Chinese companies, especially within their car industry, and that I found this amusing in the context of the article. I thought others might to. I wasn't denigrating the Chinese as a people, or their culture. I could denigrate their car industry further by pointing to the appalling results in safety testing of their shoddily copied car designs although this certainly is not amusing. Even if i did, this would not make me in to the clichéd totem of left-wing hate you describe, except perhaps in your self-righteous little mind.

My question as to whether you were an idiot was rhetorical; I didn't expect you to demonstrate that you are.

Bill Gertz, you can google him, Limey regardless of your 'centre' or 'colour '. He was quite the McCarthyite here in the States back in the Clinton era, seeing evidence of evil China and U.S. patsies everywhere up to the White House. Nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee was one of his victims, even though he turned out to be from Taiwan...just collateral damage to neo-cons. I like one of your expressions though, "cliche'd totem of left wing hate." That's pretty clever. Can I steal that ?

Re: China complaining about copyright infringement?

I suppose you could if you knew how to type; that's an accent on the 'e' not an apostrophe after. It's a French word. Better yet, change "left" to "right" and have it inked on your forehead.
Re: China complaining about copyright infringement?

yes yes, I've studied French too, I was just setting the words off to show how differently they are spelled here in the States. Sorry, you took it so personally. You guys prefer 's' to 'z' right? you know, as in criticise and realise? Then, I asked if I could 'steal' your clever expression, you know, kind of like Walt Disney did so many times, to make a funny since we were arguing about copyrights. I don't understand your thing about knowing how to type. In the context of Slate, makes you sound kind of, like a, I dunno, a childish idiot?
