First Daughters Not Getting H1N1 Vaccines.

Inetresting. Then why is the government pushing it on the rest of us? As I posted a few weeks ago, via my registry, we had to go to get fitted for special N95 respirator masks and get a little card that certifies that we have these specialized fitted masks that are supposed to be able to keep out more particulate matter better than the regular paper masks, used routinely, for Isolation patients.

Then, this week I received another email from work, stating all nurses were to get a doctor's statement that we have had the Flu Vaccines. This is something that in no other flu season, prior, has the state made it mandatory to get either specially fitted masks or demanded we must get the vaccine in order to work. Everyone, pretty much is aware of all the pushing by the CDC for people to get the H1N1 vaccines and regualr flu vaccines this year.

I have had my mask fitted and my flu vaccines, but I wonder why in light of all the hype about this

year that the First lady is unwilling to have her own children receive the H1N1 Flu Vaccines, since she supposed to be an example to us, as First Lady and The CDC that is pushing these vaccines so strongly, this year is a part of the government itself.

"President Obama's school age daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk. The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain."

Please back up your statement that "the First lady is unwilling to have her own children receive the H1N1 Flu Vaccine ..."

Good points-- National State of Emergency--

That isn't true however. According to CDC recommendations, children and young people are much more at risk for this particular flu (H1N1) because this same flu actually did come through, in 1974.So people born after 1974 have never been exposed to it and thus developed immunity to it.

Look it up. And as you noted the CDC is indeed recommending children get the vaccine, all children.

So, if you believe that The First Lady can not get access to the vaccine, well, that's something I guess the koolade provides to instantly alter your belief system, when it comes to any matter re: The Obamas. But clearly, the CDC recommends that all children get the H1N1 vaccine.

Now, if Gibbs had said the children are not likely to be exposed to commercial travel where the ventilation and air is recycled and exposed to the public where the chance of acquiring the disease is highest, then that's a legitimate argument against the kids not getting or needing it.

However, there is still the question of leading by example for First Lady ,as a representive example in action, of what the rest of us should be doing, according to Government CDC recommendations.

Her kids clearly they fly in Air Force one and are transported by private Limo, so their chance of being exposed to the virus is much lower than the average child. But , that isn't the reason she gave for not having them vaccinated.

Unavailability of vaccine for her, and her kids, simply won't fly. Sorry.

Cannot be reiterated frequently enough: do not get medical information from the Fray. Although persons aged 6mos to 24 years are part of the initial target population for the flu vaccine (and ultimate plans are to make the vaccine available for everyone 6mos-64 years old), during the period of initial, limited vaccine availability (ie, now), the vaccine is being targeted specifically to children 6mos-4 years old and not the Obama children. *

do you not understand the difference between not getting the vaccine at all and not having received the vaccine yet?
So, you think Michelle plans on having the kids vaccinated?
by LaurieAnnM

You are missing the point as is alexablue. The point is simply as First Lady and therefore a representative example to the citizens and as the government CDC is recommending all kids gets the H1N1 vaccine, why is she not out there telling people her kids will be vaccinated(if it is so important according to the gov.CDC) and encouraging others to do so ,as well?

That's the issue.

This is about simple CDC recommdations that you stated as did I.

And my question is..if the CDC is pushing this vaccine for all kids, why is The First Lady holding back on it, for her children?

And what does that say to other parents in America who are concerned about the flu and the vaccine?

Do you think perhaps some people may say to themselves, 'Well if the Fist Lady won't get her kids vaccinated, I don't trust the vaccine for my children either." Certainly, some people will think that.

That's a problem..when we are faced with a possible epidemic.

You can bet Eleanor Roosevelt would be out there on the front lines getting her own vaccine and having her kids vaccinated right on camera in order to assuage the fears of people over this vaccine.

That's my point As First Lady she is a representative example to The Nation and many people look up to her.

Because there has been so much fear about vaccines and this flu, many may well view her holding back on getting her own children vaccinated as an indication they should not get their own children vaccinated.

That is and can be a potential problem if many react that way to her non action, or reassurance about the vaccine and the CDC guidelines, in this regard.

You don't understand the difference.

Rarely can one go and get care from someone is more fucked up than the patient. I have a new nightmare, and its getting medical care from LAM.

You would think that as a medical practitioner LAM would reccognize that there may be piorities for vacinations within the broad range -- all children. To whit, some children may need their shots more than others. But, its more important to dog the Obamas than issue sound medical advise.

Again, you utterly miss the point.
by LaurieAnnM

You missed that point again, Rachel. Unavailability doesn't fly when people are lined up right now all over America waiting for this available (albeit in short supply) vaccine.

My point again is she should be leading by example if this vaccine is so important for children, as the CDC says and she doing be doing so to assuage the fears of those who are too afraid to get it.

Don't you realize it is usually is the poor and uneducated who have the greatest fears of such things?? And that is the group that needs it most, as they are exposed in public palces much more frequently as bus riders, and and mall shoppers and unclean enviroments, where the chance of exposure is the greatest.

So, as First Lady those are both the people most exposed to the pubic and therefore most susceptible ..ie the poor, who are the types who look to her for leadership on what to do about getting the vaccine.

And again, thereby, for her to be holding off on getting her kids vaccinated, with no speech encouraging the poor and needy to get this vaccine to assauge public fears, especially she could well be doing the citzens and kids who really need this vaccine, but are afraid or too uneducated to get it a a disservice.

Why is this so difficult for you, Rachel?
