Is intellectual conservatism dead?
by Reptilicus

Aside maybe from George Will....who's rapidly being tarred as a "RINO" for his opposition to the Afghanistan War and recent (just yesterday) attacks on Cheney over Iraq...

can you think of any intellectual conservatives with any clout, a la a "William F. Buckley Jr." or "Milton Friedman"?

Plenty of "Becks"..."Limbaughs"...'Hannitys"..."Coulters"...and "Malkins"....

but anybody you could see going 15 rounds of Harvard School of Debate style rhetorical battle with a John Kenneth Galbraith or John Maynard Keynes or Noam Chomsky, like Mr.s Buckley or Friedman could on the old 'Firing Line"?!?!?!?

Names?

Never ask this after Will writes about Health Care?

Why is that?.......................................

Yea its dead, makes a lot of sense along with everything else you post. The majority of the people you just mentioned hate John McCain yet he somehow was the Presidential nominee last time.

Sicko, I asked this a few weeks back...well before Will said anything about Afghanistan or Cheney.

Who ARE the "intellectuals" in a movement that somehow now prides itself on REJECTING intellectualism for "gut feelings" and "truthiness"???

Not even Gingrich, an actual college professor, is acceptable now....especially with his support of Dede Scozzafava in New York.

He is being labeled a RINO by the wingnut right fringe:

I write all this to preface my contention that Newt Gingrich, who should be a contender for president in 2012, has now disqualified himself. The former Speaker probably might have overcome the baggage of two failed marriages and an intense hatred by most in the mainstream media. Conservatives liked him and are still grateful for what he did for the movement. But Newt has fallen for the biggest lie in politics, and it is this: we must support Republicans simply because they are Republicans.

I refer, of course, to Newt's recent endorsement of New York State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava in the special election in the Empire State's 23rd Congressional District. Officially, Scozzafava is a Republican, although her political philosophy mirrors few of the GOP's platform tenets. She is locked in a three-way race for Congress with the Democrat, attorney Bill Owens, and the only conservative in the race, Doug Hoffman. The three are vying for the seat being vacated by Republican John McHugh, who has been appointed Secretary of the Army.

As columnist Michelle Malkin has pointed out, Scozzafava is "an ACORN-friendly, big labor-backing, tax-and-spend radical in GOP clothing." She favors same-sex marriage, unfettered abortion on demand, and has such an atrocious voting record on taxes in the state legislature that Owens, the Democrat, is attacking her as a "tax raiser"!

Doesn't matter, Gaffer....remember those people live and die by the Orwellian "memory hole" that is Limbaugh and Fox News.

Six months from now, they won't even remember who Scozzafava is, or that Gingrich supported her, because it has become "untruth" and Winston Smith has altered the story in the Times.

Then as now you still cannot explain how the people you claim speak for the Republican party, the people you repeatedly give credence to as evidence of its certain demise, those very same people who detested McCain's candidacy……........

Yet he still won the primairies,,,,,and still was the Republican Nominee for POTUS?

Newt is correct about the race in NY, he is as right about that as you are wrong whenever you make this stupid assertion. (Please bring up George Will some more I am sure you loved you're new heroes piece on Bachmann today.)

Intellectual and Conservative do not belong in the same sentence or paragragh or for that matter on the same page.

Conservatives are scared, un-intelligent frightened folks who opt for war first.

It is thier ignorance that makes them scared and stupid.
