only thing I picked were raspberries. the farmer would drive down the streets of my little town and lure us kids to do some picking. I forgot what we were paid, but since I always ate more than the farmer got, I figure I came out ahead.

When I was a kid in junior high, Levis cost $4.25 at the ship's store. $4.25 was a lot of dough to us, but the advanage to Levis was that you could wear them everyday and nobody was the wiser.

Unfortunately, my mother was a bit of an elitist and wouldn't let us wear Levis to school. The best birthday present I ever got from my mother, was a pair of Levis on my 14th. That signalled that she'd had a change of heart.

alkaline's use of the phrase, "When I was growing up...",

hints me at something akin to an oxymoron, although I'm sure a grammarian could link me to the precise descriptor.
Boy, you got it bad for me...

not that your stalking isn't flattering, but damn, you really do need to get over your obsession.

And have you ever had to pick coffee for enough money to by 1/2 a kilo of tortillas and beans.

I agree Bush was born into privilege and Obama for the most part has lived a life of privilege so whats the difference?? they both spend too much and they both say do as I say not as I do.

When ya serve up softballs, someone's inevitably going to step up to the plate and have a swing at 'em.

-Hope that helps.

The only "picker" in my family is my daughter. She picked grapes in the Champagne region of France while vacationing one year with her French boyfriend. She made really good money, lived on the vineyard and ate fabulous meals everyday. Oh, she was also covered on their health insurance plan.

Now that's the way to attract farm workers.

one year and we could keep the money we made on Friday

the work was dirty and backbreaking

but there were other kids and I look back at the good times not the dirty work

at the time I thought I could find work doing something else and next year I did just that

When I lived in Maine, I supplemented my income by digging for bloodworms in the tidal mud flats. 18cents/worm. At my best, I could make about $90/tide. Generally, a tide lasted about 90 minutes. I loved it.
