A Hunch Confirmed
by Schmutzie
-1 Reply
So Jack Dallas is upset that someone did a parody of him on Best of The Fray, a parody that made him sound like a racist. Obviously, any good parody has to have a slight ring of truth, but I found Daveto's post to be a little too truthy to be true parody.

Obviously Jack Dallas is a racist. He's also a sexist, a misogynist, a homophobe, a xenophobe and a rather poor writer. But I already knew all that.

The question of why he's posting suddenly on this board can be answered simply: He craves our attention. I told you that a month ago, and here he is. Jack Dallas has followed you to this board.

Actually, it took less than a month. He can't live without you.

Any questions folks?

You know what to do.

Re: A Hunch Confirmed
by Sarvis

Lot's of hunches confirmed around here. Mine is that some posters here need him (and his ilk) as much as he needs them.

The most interesting mystery is not that "the trolls" would "follow you here". (I mean, like, duh.)

The show really worth watching is to find out who can finally break the chain of codependence.

We do agree on this: "you know what to do."

I know what I do
by meridiantoo

and it's what I think you would want me to do.

I ignore them

Just once. I'd like to see a troll's post fall off the front page with no responses.

Why do people feel the moral outrage that demands a response to a troll when the best outrage is to iignore them?

I'd rather see a hundred kitty posts than a single reply to a troll. I say let them pound salt.

hi schmu,
by Snolly G

it's somewhat less satisfying to see jd than i imagine it would be to find the rest of icp here. that is to say, his soul was always for sale--i just had no idea it could be had so cheaply--at the cost of just a little attention. the real prize would be to see lm follow you here.

Re: hi schmu,
by Schmutzie

Oh but they are all here Snolly. Every last Insane Clown.

They've followed every post, every typo, every expression that has occurred here for the last month.

Jack Dallas and Tempo are just the most obvious clowns. They are the first two with such little self-respect that they actually had the nerve to show their faces here after badmouthing us Geezers and our little sidewalk cafe for the previous 4 weeks. How can people humiliate themselves like that? Talk about fucking pathetic.

We may be "elitists", "snobs", and "fucking liberal moron hypocrites", but that doesn't mean Jack and Tempo don't want to hang around. Gatewood and LAM are here too, they just can't bring themselves to acknowledge the fact for fear of appearing needy.

A hunch confirmed. And as you stated above, by confirming my hunch they have further legitimized this little bar, and made they own look like shit. Like I said in my very first Geezer post, ownership of Best of The Fray was never what they craved.

Small satisfaction, I agree. But at least we've established who is following whom, as if there was ever a doubt.

True, that---Gatewood, Lyin' Laurie and others have
by Inkberrow

posted multiple entries indicating they are reading every single post here. Now Honest Ellen is back, peering through the bedroom windows like the Church Lady.

Experiment part one, over---Schmutzie hypothesis confirmed.

Experiment part two---where from here? I think Meridian's right about the sheer elegant simplicity of troll-spoor dropping off the pages unanswered, unrated, un-anything. Regardless, consistency is the key---continued harrying, or functional "block user"?

My vote is for a working Geezer understanding to refrain from replies to trolls, period, here on this board anyway.

I never had a clue
by Schrodinger

Well, I shouldn't say that. I mean, the vaccine thing, and all. But I never had a clue that you were batshit insane. You do realize that's what you're being, right? Following posters around, saying basically the same thing that you've said, only in slightly different ways. "Calling us all out". That sort of thing. It's not healthy.

Arch was, as usual, right. B-A-T-S-H-I-T. Better syntax, though. So that's something to hang your tinfoil hat on.

Re: M2
by JackDallas

The problem with that theory is that, contrary to poular belief, I really don't care whether anyone responds to my posts or not. I'm going to say what I want to say regardless of what anyone does.

The real key is the number of views. Few can resist opening my posts (you all seem to have a morbid need to get pissed off) just to see what i said this time. Most do not respond, for various reasons, but many cannot help themselves.I'm the same way. I sometimes swear to totally ignore certain posters but then end up opening their posts and sometimes responding.

It's like watching a train wreck.

Jack

Yes M2 is correct. That is what we need to do.

I suggest the <5 downrating filtering system as well.

My full endorsement (again).
by tartuffe

No, now I gotta disagree (with latter suggestion).
by tartuffe

That's attention, hence counter-productive, imo.

Your hunch is mistaken, Sarv, sorry.
by Inkberrow
There's dependence, all right, but it isn't mutual, despite your suspiciously tenacious efforts to cast it so! You're still mired in the meta- fallacy that because this BBS format and a feckless placeholder for an Editor obliges us to have to deal with trolls directly sometimes, that we need or want them in our Fray lives. I personally would like nothing better Fray-wise than for the Usual Suspects to cease posting forever, here or anywhere else on the Fray (well, the day after would be Better!). My guess is that most Geezers regulars feel the same way. Do you believe for an instant that sentiment is shared by the parasites of this Geezer host? Symbiosis it ain't.
Agree with Tarty---downrates are part of their language,
by Inkberrow

or raisons d'etre. Open to input on this, of course.

No reply anyway, okay. Next question, is it then appropriate or not to acknowledge violations of "no reply" by regulars like yours truly, or visitors? Is it advisable or not to reference recent troll-spoor on the board?

Re: Agree with Tarty---downrates are part of their language,
by Schmutzie

Yeah you're both right.

I'm thinking flush the shit down the toilet and get it off the front page, but a downrate infers that I read the post, and I surely don't want to give that impression.

I guess total non-engagement is the solution, as seems to be always the case when it comes to trolls.

That of course raises the question, again, about the definition of non-engagement.

Are we feeding the trolls right now, by merely discussing them? Are we supposed to entirely ignore the fart in church? I think not.

already there.
by Isonomist
No downrates, no replies, and the hard part: no overt references, as much as I can avoid it. PTSD makes it a little hard not to want to discuss until desensitized.
