Father of the Year?
by TheRanger

Let's get real here.

1. Meddling police always picking on loving parents like the Garrido's (remember them?). Well, maybe not exactly parents.

2. If convicted, Heene will have directly involved his kids in the commission of a felony which at best is contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

3. Heene believes he was once kidnapped by extraterrestrials who run a shadow government and that Armageddon will come in 2012.

what is your point?

So Heene is out there and of course should be convicted for his crimes, but I see no reason to take his kids away. If both parents do some time then the kids will have to be taken care of by someone but when they get out they get the kids back.

You really don't want the government have this much power, I assume.

Actually I agree with you to some extent. I was pointing out the fallacy of Dahlia's arguments that children's welfare is no business of the state. However, when it becomes Bonnie and Clyde and family, one has to draw a line somewhere.

Didn't Bonnie and Clyde, like rob banks and kill people and stuff?

Yeah, you know; felony type stuff.

Let's be clear. This showboater placed a lot of first responders at risk trying to track and capture the balloon. Even worse who knows what real emergency may have had aid delayed to it because the first responders were off amusing this guy. Try to remember that he could have ended the chase at any time. He chose not to.

You place other people at risk anytime you get behind the wheel of a car, drink in a bar or own a gun. Putting other people at risk is not a crime, per se. Making false statements to the authorities etc. is a crime but that isn't usually a felony offense punishable with long prison sentences, etc. People just want them in jail because they got so much media attention. If it was your brother or sister who made a false report it would look different.
You Are Wrong Again

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor and attempting to influence the actions of a public servant are both felonies.

1. When you get behind the wheel of a car you put people at risk? Maybe you do, but I thought that is why there were driver's licenses.

2. Own a gun? That puts people at risk only if you are negligent.

3. Drink in a bar? Only if you drink to excess and then drive. Then you get a DUI.

I know sense is not common, but come on; there has to be someone else out there with a little besides me.

Let me ask you a question:

If it was my brother or sister who made a false report to the authorities, how would that change whether it was right or wrong? That smacks of relativism all over.
