All those with mothers take one step forward.
by Schadenfreude

Not so fast, Schad.

????

Oh.

Still, 82 years was a pretty good run.

My condolences. I'm sure she was a good woman, despite having an asshole for a son.

Jack

Sincere condolences.

[beyond that, I never know what to say in these circumstances; nothing seems adequate]

Sorry to hear that

My dad lived 81 years and I'll settle for that as a good run too.He also went out like a man.

My sympathy.

No one will ever love us like our mother. They forgive anything and love us unconditionally. She taught you wit, a skeptical gaze, the ability to see things more clearly than most, curiosity and discernment—there are far worse legacies. For those things I honor her. I am confident of her (ongoing) love for you and her ability to support you still in the legacy she leaves you.

I’m truly sorry Schad. It’s a crappy part of life, the ending of it. I suspect I would have been pleased to meet her.

That's what I thought

just a few weeks ago, only she told the folks at the assisted care interview that she was a hundred and seventy-nine. I think she was fibbing. I'm sorry for your loss, but that was a good run. God be with you, even as your mother cannot.

I'm very sorry.

I miss my mom nearly every day, and it has been almost 12 years.

I'm not sure you are a hugger so I will just reach over and give your hand a squeeze and say, with complete sincerity, that she must have been very proud of her son. I know I would be.

Schaden:

My mom lived to the same age. We visited her the last week she was alive but unconsious to our presence. From a mother who cared for me and my fate as a son to a son caring for her and wishing for her best fate. Our roles had reversed.

For the last years of life her mind had deterioated from Alzheimers and she no longer recognized myself or my brothes and sister as her children. She would stare at us and smile as if we were her grand-children or some nice neighborhood people. It was difficult to see her in such a state. I would tease her for an hour or so until I would hear something familar she would always say in the past.

"Oh, Go On!"

With her fingers pursed in front of her as any Italian mom would do. It was then I would see the glimmer in her eyes for a few moments and I believed she recognized me. She didn't die alone and in the end her passing was a blessing.

I am sorry to hear of your loss Schaden. Peace until you and your family.

My great grand father lived to 93, My maternal Grandma to 88. ..both Danes. I wonder why Schad never mentioned his mom before today.

Hi, Schadenfreude.

I lost my own mother this May.

Almost exactly the same age as your own.

I am very sorry for your loss but also glad for what I am sure you had in her.

Peace and hang in, you've got extra shoes to fill, now.

(Memo to my mom: you livin' on borrowed time, woman.

To others: she knows it.)

Yeah, that is a good run.

Shortly before my grandfather's death (a little older), he was speaking with my father and said, "It was so short."

Just lost my mum too. I'm sorry to hear about yours. Please accept my condolences, Schad.
