"Pro" applications
by tevitron

I was a lifelong Windows user until I started dabbling into audio engineering and found that a mac was far better for me (this might also be because my favorite program is mac exclusive and my PC's were never top-of-the-line performance wise). After I switched I became a total convert pretty quickly due to a lot of little things mentioned in this article that are beneficial for "normal use" of my computer.

I really enjoyed seeing these things compared to the new operating system but am curious as to what kind of support it has for audio and–although not relevant to me personally–video etc. that would make it a better choice than snow leopard (I am still running leopard on my imac and tiger on my macbook pro). Also, how stable is it?

My mac has crashed before but compared to any PC I've ever had, it works beautifully. Is there better protection against viruses, spyware etc? The thing that really sealed my love for macs is the fact that my computers performance never reached that exponential entropy as millions of spyware apps invaded it.

I have nothing against windows (well, not in that rival sports team hatred people seem to feel for it) and for conventional use I am not particular about either; I just want to know if it will enable the PC's to have longer lasting performance and better usage of resources for particularly taxing programs.

(All my info is purely anecdotal so feel free to argue, but I can't address much outside of my own personal experiences with these OS's, which is limited in scope to mostly just pro-audio)

Spyware apps

Well the issue of spyware apps is very dependent on how you use your machine. And yes, because Windows is the largest installed base, more spyware apps will target Windows environments than Mac.

But the reality is that there is spyware out there on all platforms so security through obscurity only works to some extent.

Its interesting how the Mac realm has become heavily invested in the AV creation side of things and the "network effect" that continues to have
