Slate Editors - Article Titles vs Actual Content

Slate Editors…the mismatch between the articles and the titles is getting way out of hand. The other day, an article detailing how it is much more likely for black women to DIE from breast cancer, was labeled how it was much more likely black women will GET breast cancer. COMPLETELY different. So much so, the article title was then updated. Today we have an article about how black women are more likely to get 15 years by cutting in line. That is totally inaccurate. A few weeks ago we had an article about Feminism (I can’t quite remember the title) where the author posted on the blog discussing how she didn’t get to pick her own titles because it had caused such an uproar.
I look to Slate for its perspective, but it doesn’t make Slate any better than TMZ when they appear to be going for the most fantastic headline that misrepresents the actual contents of the article. It lowers your legitimacy and hurts your integrity. The first few times seemed like a mistake, but this is happening quite a lot (the above examples are the only ones I can think of at the moment, but I’m sure people on this board would be happy to elaborate).
