Sci fi is hard to do right
by patron002
Looking for good scifi on tv is like looking for a good hamburger and McDonalds. It isn't going to happen. Sci Fi even when done well often times fails to be entertaining. Its hard to make the unbelieviable believable.

That's true Patron.

The best sci-fi is still in novel form and I suspect that is because the authors know some science and take the time to work out their ideas. Having the time and room to explain those ideas helps too. Short story form does well too.

There's been some good sci-fi on TV but less so. X-Files, Babylon 5 and Outer Limits are the best of the recent stuff. The Trek shows were ok although uneven. Lost is marginally sci-fi and while it has done well so far I'm not sure if it will end on a high note, I have a fear it will collapse in the final season.

Movies... rarely are they both entertaining and good sci-fi.
