Jesus is dead

there isn't anything remotely Christian, as in follower of Christ, about the conservative, evangelical, Republican authoritarian movement. While Jesusism may be found in small droplets across America, it's rare. For one thing, nobody can follow the rules: find a Christian in the Fray who really does unto others. Ha, maybe Ole BenK. Haha. What about wealth? Rome, you say?

The truth is and always has been since the Puritans slaughtered the Indians, that this strain, this horrid stain on the names of religion and politics, is not Christian, it's Mosesism. Moses is who the lunatic right wing fringe follows. That's who they think Bush is, a new Moses that will lead them from their perceived bondage. Of course the bondage thing is an utterly stupid joke. Did you hear the one about a church on every street corner in the USA?

Moses was a sadist, a murderer, a thief, and a tyrant. Oh, that sounds familiar doesn't it? Moses invented the Bush doctrine: "I think (fill in the blank, usually with short dark people or a weak people living on valuable land) are thinking evil thoughts about me and my mindless flock, I say it's my divine right to attack first. Don't bet against Bush and nuclear weapons as the means to prevent "madmen" from using that technology. God gave us nukes."

Is there any mystery about how much the full throated, anti Semitic Christan's of a few years ago have come to love Israel? Did BenK support the attacks on Iraq? Yep. Attacks on Iran? Yep. Attacks on the Constitution? You got it.

All these weenie right wing God goofs praying for your souls will want to put you in jail--to save yourself, of course--so the rapture will remain unpolluted. Political power is only a first step. Absolute power is the goal. Complete repression of anything secular. Moses allows no dissent, comply or die.

Are you sure you mean Moses and not Joshua?

"Jesusism"?

"Mosesism"?

I don't have any more sympathy for the wingnuts than you do despite being a Christian myself, but where are you getting these 'isms'?

a Jesusist would be that rarest of birds; a reader and follower of the New Testament.

A Mosesist would be that most plentiful insect: a reader and accepting slug who thinks Moses was 1. a hero, or 2. someone who existed.

Somebody has to make these names up, nobody else stepped forward.

I highly recommend M. Scott Peck's People of the Lie and The Road Less Traveled for an excellent explication of the mutual exclusivity of love and politics. He deftly addresses the same ideas as OP without provocative labels such as "Jesusism" and "Mosesism".

It's sad that David Kuo and other well-meaning people had to learn their lessons the hard way when the books have been out for such a long time.
