And, of course, follow this link for responses to your link.

thanks for the link crowe. however, after reading all of it i still wouldn't eat unfermented soy products. fallon and enig sometimes exaggerate wildly, but i agree with their fundamental philosphy on food and nutrition, specifically that certain foods need to be prepared in certain ways to neutralize their harmful effects and maximize their health benefits (soy being a prime example).

There seems to be a myth that all vegans are always eating soy for every single meal and snack. In my experience, this is not true. Almost every problem in those links has to do with eating massive amounts of soy. I would be willing to guess that most vegans eat less soy than the average. Most processed food is filled to the brim with soy. Most processed food is not vegan. Vegans generally eat considerably less processed food. Soy is just a small part of a huge variety of foods that vegans eat, a variety that is much larger than the Standard American Diet.

Second, most of those points are about what soy isn't. It's kinda like saying you should never ride a bus because a buses does not cure cancer, nor do buses emit a tiger contraceptive aura.

Neither of those links conclude that soy isn't safe. Rather, they state that there is a massive business interest in soy resulting in some overstated health claims.

Yeah, not buying it.

But I guess if you really WANT to believe non-scientific anecdotal twaddle spouted by the uneducated parroters of forty-year-old propaganda that have a massive financial the product that they're "defending" so vocally, that's your decision. Every statement made in that link was so reminiscent of "studies" that were passed around by tobacco companies in the 50s and 60s, that I have to believe someone just stole some documents and changed the word "tobacco" to "soy" and "cigarettes" to "tofu" throughout the entire thing. It's ok, though. It sounds impressive, and I guess that's the important thing for a lot of people. ********* ************ *************** *************** ************** ************ ************** ********* ************ ************** **************** ******************** *************** ************** ********** ****** Soybeans are a genetically modified crop that can only be grown with irrigation and heavy use of pesticides and fertilizers. Intensive monoculture farming has destroyed soil and water tables so severely that they will never recover. Farm land that was at one time some of the best in the world is now nothing more than a toxic desert. The processing they have to be subjected to to render them edible is so energy inefficient and wasteful that you will never see a photo of the interior of a processing plant, nor will anyone who works at a plant like that ever speak to the press. ************ ************** *************** ************ ****************** **************** ************* ************ ************* ************ ************ ************** *********** *********** ******** But hey, if you think it's "green" to eat that stuff, then knock yourself out. Have fun with that. I'll stick with organic, free range, horomone free, vegetarian fed meat of all kinds and organic produce, just like my ancestors have for generations. Of course, several of those generations (five, wow) are still alive and kicking, what with the fact that they all live to be close to 100 years old and in my generation will almost certainly surpass that.
