If you watch the games...
by Pachomius
... you'd note just how good some women players are. This article is good because it addresses the overall issue in women's athletics- the lack of a good business model. Soccer is up and coming and has a foundation that even the signing of Beckman couldn't dent. It'll slowly gain steam, just like football did... and men's basketball. Go to the smaller markets and let the play speak for itself. The ball handling, teamwork, and shots are truly impressive basketball. A shame the ABL wasn't given a chance. I agree, we'd all be realizing about now just how good women are at this game.

I don't think that many people would disagree that these women are talented and athletic. The problem is the product, The product is an inferior one. I'll never understand why no seems to be able to play more than six inches off the floor. I'm not looking for the second coming of Michael Jordan, but rebounders don't jump, shot blockers don't jump... The only people who seem to jump are the occasional drive to the hole, and the opening tip... and that's nothing spectacular either. If you made the players sexless drones, completely androgynous, would anyone be excited about going to a game? No... because you could go to a local high school game and potentially see something more exciting for less money. Its the product that sucks, not the players, not the marketing plan... Any successful marketing plan will only be successful in the short term, until people see it and realize they've been duped.

The top poster idea about having teams were men teams are NOT might work.

For example I do like the WNBA but since I'm in So Cal, I watch the Sparks. Now the mens team is one you might of heard of; The LAKERS! Well LA has another NBA club the Clippers and that club is a distance second to the LAKERS, so just imagine where the Sparks fall in So Cal market.

Maybe if they were in a place that didn't have a lot of other men sports they might make it? No, it would still fail.
