Good article, except...

"It's possible that this extradition request isn't about sending Polanski to prison for years. He is, after all, a 76-year-old Oscar-winning director—he's old and he's renowned for his work. He hasn't been accused of any other sex crimes in the intervening decades."

O.K. The fact that he hasn't been accused of any other sex crimes since he fled is probably relevant. As for the fact that he's an Oscar-winning director and renowned for his work? I hope you're joking.

He may not have been accused of any other sex crimes, but that doesn't mean he's not dangerous. The first thing he did after fleeing the country was to take up with a 15-year-old, and in an interview he made the repeated statement that "everyone wants to f--- little girls."

Add that to Samantha Geimer's testimony, and I wouldn't want a guy like that walking the streets. Not here, not in Switzerland, and not in France. In fact, given the attitude of the French authorities toward Polanski, I really don't want him walking the streets there.

Didn't know about the 15-year-old. Didn't know about his sordid past until his recent arrest. He should be treated like the sex offender he is, and should also be penalized for fleeing the country prior to sentencing. And if the penalty is greater now than it would have been thirty years ago, that's his own doing.

He is only a danger to society now because of the invention of Viagra.

The 15-year old was Nastassia Kinski, who starred in his six-ton adaptation of Thomas Hardy's TESS OF THE D'URBEVILLES.
