If This Were P. Diddy
by degsme

If it were P.Diddy or FiddyCent or any other minority celeb, we'd be hearing from Limbaugh and Hannity on this.

But its a rich white guy celeb.

sorry bring him back - let him make movies for the corrections dept. He fucked up (literally), knew it, and ran. HIS CHOICES.

Hey, from a legal perspective what is your view of the Polanski case? Was there judical misconduct? Didn't the DA's office accept a plea and does that plea still stand? Should these legal facts impact how the court decides his fate or should he be treated like any other rapiest?

I'm not so interested in the actual crime (I believe he raped the girl based on what I have read), but on how the state should handle the case now.

If there was judicial misconduct, Polanski would have gotten off on appeal. That he didn't trust that to work tells me lots

Doesn't really matter anyway. Even if he gets completely off from the charges stemming from his attack on the girl - he's still a fugitive. He'll likely rot in prison simply from that standpoint - his pretty clear cut rape charge not withstanding.

Both Rush an Hannity condemed his behavior and agree he should pay for his crime. Try listening sometime.

Where exactly did this come from? Are you so political that you believe a person's politics trumps EVERYTHING they believe or are you just flat out looking for anything to go after Rush?

It seems to me that the author is implying that if it were a black rapper, Limbaugh etc would use it to impugn all black rappers. Since it's a white guy, Limbaugh etc are using it to impugn all liberals instead.
His CHOICE to flee

Well it was his CHOICE to flee jurisdiction

No, I'm suggesting that if he was black - regardless of profession - Limbaugh and Hannity would use it to go after blacks (invoking Cosby and such)

But since he is white, instead of indcting White Males, they generalize about their political opposition

Very true. And unfortunately, some of them there rich white Hollywood liberals are making themselves excellent targets for impugnment. But seriously, what is one to expect from assholes like Woody Allen?

Most rational people understand that being liberal does not insulate someone from being an asshole any more than being conservative guarantees it. Obviously Limbaugh's narrow audience contains very few rational people, so who gives a shit what they think? Limbaugh is a pillhead/corporate whore asshole, and Woody is a pederast asshole. Woody is more interested in protecting the right of rich white guys to practice pederasty than he is in protecting the image of rich white liberals. And so much for that.

I think the OP confuses P Diddy with R. Kelly. What a racist. They don't all look alike ;- )

Two things:

1) I seem to catch Hannity for a bit everyday. I do recall him whining about Polanski--and about "hollywood liberals" standing up for him.

2) If R. Kelly can get off (ooh, now there's a pun) as not guilty for screwing a 14yo ON VIDEOTAPE, then EVERYBODY should get off.

I see so because OJ

I see, so because Klaus Von Bulow and OJ got away with murder, so should everyone?

Notice Hannity aims this at "liberals" - not at "white men".

My comment wasn't meant to be taken literally (that nobody should be convicted). It was meant to show--I'm only able to conclude--that at the end of the day, neither the public at large nor juries seem to find anything extremely APPALLING about consensual sex with minors--despite all the screeching that's done through the media.

Again, if an actual VIDEOTAPE of an adult male having sex with a 14 year old is not enough to convict, then...it's reasonable to conclude that the crime is not taken seriously by at least a significant subset of people.

(it also gives evidence, surely, that celebrities do better than the population at large in criminal trials).

btw: Alan Dershowitz has vigorously insisted that he is totally convinced of von Bulow's innocence--and that he came into the situation being convinced he was guilty.

But I agree with you (as far as politics): If a conservative were accused of this sort of crime Hannity et al would simply say "If he's guilty, he should be convicted." and then say no more about it. Hannity, especially, is visciously partisan.
