Polanski should be locked up.
by Apostrophe

Period.

But the LA DA's office is a joke - they couldn't even convict such obviously guilty celebrities as OJ Simpson and Robert Blake. They're doing this because they don't want to be seen as a joke anymore. It's not going to help, but if Polanski ends up doing time behind the DA's ego trip, so much the better.

I'm sure we'll all sleep better knowing that Polansky is in jail while some current sex offender on parole has a child kidnapped and locked in a tent in his back yard because they don't have enough manpower or resources to properly supervise these guys.

here you are again, clever reponse, yes, what is it your'e saying? that CA should not try to extradite Polanski because lack of funds? that his crime was not that serious to merit such move? that you really, really liked rosemary's baby?

Obviously, they "had" to make some attempt to extradite him, if it was practical.

But the MAIN reason to put someone in prison should be to protect society now, and in the future (by rehabilitation while in prison). Polanski is OBVIOUSLY not a danger to society. There's no real service to society by putting him in prison (except perhaps putting him there for skipping).

jailing him fulfils your criteria, as it will tell potential future offenders that even if society has to wait someone's whole life, they'll get them in the end. Great deterent, that.

I don't know how much of a deterent this is since he got to spend those 30 years living the high life!

Ok, you have somewhat of a point but it is a very weak one. But hey justice is justice and I do agree this case needs to be closed once and for all. As for the punishment I could care less what it is.
