GMO foods
by Patrick

So...you guys ever hear of GMO foods (e.g. Frankenfoods)? GMO's are bad, will give you bad health, and ultimately kill you. Stay away from them. Stay away from vaccines too (*winks* serious though) but REALLY stay away from GMO.

That means stay away from soy and if you eat corn get organic. But since 80% of soy is GMO, stay away from all of soy! You'll basically get sick and die after a number of years. You think this is a ridiculous conspiracy theory or too stupid to be true, but I...might surprise ya?

It's not a joke you know, but let's open the forum to a discussion on GMO foods. It's my busy week so I'm not prepared to discuss it much and dive right in, but on my off week (i.e. next week) I'll be prepared to kick some ass. So then let's start with a preliminary question and ask if anybody knows what "GMO" is all about.

You're also free to aim your "idiotometers" at me if you want for the sake of humor (I suppose because of "penis" envy - ha! preemptive strike!).

So which genetically modified foods do you mean?

If I raise beef cattle but add lysine to their feed to bring them up to market weight should I be worried?

What exactly is it about GMO organism that I should be worried about? If there is a strain of barley that is modified so that it is resistant to fungal ergotism should I be more worried about the modification of that plants genes or dying of parasitic ergotism?

Lumpy,

You're a real trip sometimes!

In the case of ergot, you should obviously be worried about werewolves.

;-)

I just don't like people who stir up unnecessary hysteria. A lot of GMO food are not really modified all that much. All of the genes that they use are simply interjected from other organisms of the same species. So, what's the difference? A lot of the organisms we are talking about, even experts couldn't tell the diffence between the GM organism and one that was bred naturally.

There are some real issues with how livestock and crops are such as injection of anti-biotics and hormones into cattle. But, Patrick and people like him are just stirring up hysteria based on nothing. Or should I say, they are doing unpaid marketing work for Whole Foods.

This isn't so Lumpy. I am actually not going to get into this debate, but to say that any one who questions a thing shouldn't !!!!!! Well 'me old duck' we would still have God if that where so for God's sake.
hate to nit pick...

But adding lysine to their feed doesn't represent genetic modification, anymore than adding sugar or salt would. You're just supplemting their diet.
Soy kills?

"But since 80% of soy is GMO, stay away from all of soy! You'll basically get sick and die after a number of years. "

>>After a number of years--you mena like after 60 or 70? If eating soy means you';ll basically get sick and die prematurley why aren't we seeing a drastic increase in mortality in nations like Japan where the diest is rich in soy protein compared to the US or Europe, where it's not?

If it's Genetically Modified Oreos I guess I'm just out of luck. Cause I kinda like them little buggers.

P.S. There's nothing humorous about penis envy, you just shouldn't do it.

On the other hand, I will chip in about hormones and live stock.

JGC doesn't like it when I 'anecdote' but .......... whilst I was in Belgium there were at different times wars going on about this, 'The Hormone Mafia', as they were called, won, they are not the sort of people that one crosses, as those that did learnt to their cost. ( Politicians as well as farmers where killed ( it was all reported at the time, in Flam's though :)) ) It is a nasty mean business.

That aside, what they pump into livestock, is made by the pharmas, is consumed by us and now it, through the animals that they use IE sheep, bovine ( calf's and cows ) rabbit, dog,,monkey, chicken.human fetus, chickens and ducks eggs.is being used to pump into us too, in the form of a partially tested vaccine. If we take this 'problem' alone leaving out all others, is it not a bit worrying ?

These things and the companies that make them and the Mafia that peddle them are all interconnected.are the not ?

When Cockcroft and Walton first split the atom, did they do it too harm man kind ? No to enhance ..........What have we done ? ......Not all of us are to be trusted with great knowledge are we? When Jenner invented the vaccine was it to harm mankind ? ........No, but are you sure about all that we are doing with them now ? Same with GM crops, do we trust all of the people who mess with them ? This is not to say it is not an amazing nor even a good idea, but do we trust in those who's hands they sit ?

Or do you just ask your friends to? Just think about it a while and in the meantime..fuck off.
You'll get sick and DIE, STUPID!
by LeftistMarxist
Can't you fucking read? He said it as plain as day. If you eat any GMO foods you'll get sick and fucking die. Obviously it's a fact because no one would just toss that shit out there without having done a lot of research even if they're not going to be taking any questions or providing any proof or evidence to back it up. Jeez. Get a brain, will ya?

"If I raise beef cattle but add lysine to their feed to bring them up to market weight should I be worried?"

No.

"What exactly is it about GMO organism that I should be worried about?"

I'll let ya know later. Plants: they inserted genes to make pesticides and you eat it. That's it in part.

"If there is a strain of barley that is modified so that it is resistant to fungal ergotism should I be more worried about the modification of that plants genes or dying of parasitic ergotism?"

I'll let ya know next week. You should be worried about the modification for various reasons.
